Definitely the second one. We would see a long dramatic media cycle about right wing extremism taking over the justice system and protests to go with it. I would predict lots of confused Kyle supporters thinking mistrial means hes acquitted, only to freak out again once he goes back on trial (some people genuinely thought he was off the hook when he posted bail). It would also be a disaster for the judge who is clearly effected by the media talking smack about him. I guess they could select another jury successfully, but they might immediately be biased because he was already found guilty once, even though it was overturned or whatever. In general, I think a lot of people would be angry and confused based on the inconsistency of that outcome alone because people generally can't process inconsistency well.
