It’s about power. Metal, video games, porn, etc etc etc were tools that could be used to reduce the cultural power of religion. Liberalism is ultimately not concerned with any absolute principles, it’s concerned with a mercantile elite maintaining power and will change to reflect whatever its interests are.

I’d add that to boomers liberalism meant “shut up and let me listen to the Rolling Stones” and to their parents it meant “shut up and let me listen to jazz”. In the future when the left has won all the current cultural battles and moved on to the next set, people will look back fondly at the days when liberalism was about “letting kids listen to rap and be trans”.

That's true, but the term 'terrorism' has been so worn out at this point that it no longer carries the same implications it once did. You could call someone Nazis and have to qualify it with "No, I mean they're literal time traveling German soldiers hailing from world war 2, not people I disagree with", so similarly it feels better to try to qualify the term 'terrorist' to explain your intent better, even when 'terrorist' is the completely legitimate term.
