But if this guy is a "freelancers" as indicated by the CYA tweet above, it should really be illustrative to everyone how hurting these newsrooms are financially that they just outsource their news to randoms in various Metro areas.

Clearly James Morrison is a regular freelancer, and I don't know what his pay scale is. But it should show folks that during the trial of the year, MSNBC/NBC is unable to fly out an actual employee to the Greater Chicago area and pay for their hotel room, food bill, and rental car. Two decades ago, that was normal.

I mean, if you're going to direct someone to go do some highly illegal, unethical shit, it makes sense to outsource to a third party to create distance and plausible deniability. There have been actual MSNBC journalists in the courtroom throughout the duration of the trial.
