The judge declares it if he feels the jury cannot reach an agreement or if the jurors themselves declare it.

Am I the only one who is starting to feel a bit uneasy at all the time I've flushed on this thread? I mean don't get me wrong--you guys are great fun to hang out with, but I have gotten very little accomplished in the last week or so and it's starting to really feel like this is never going to end.

The first step to combating addiction is recognizing it. But really just do something else mate.

I worry that this is a serious problem for people in general but especially people on our general side of things. I wonder if it isn't deliberate to addict people to the online, to make them doubt their sense of reality so they have to constantly be plugged in to reaffirm their beliefs. There's a nasty sort of disconnect. You can see it in internet polls, or dislike ratios, or comments on youtube, the overwhelming sentiment is our sort. Is it that we are the majority? That's not unlikely, but it could also be that we are the sort to be online in these spaces. There could be upsides to this, but no upside can be realized if no time is spent being productive with it. I have to think a shift in mentality and/or synchronicity could go a long way. I also have to think certain elements know this and actively mitigate against synchronicity that would go against the grain, through targeted suppression/bans or algorithm adjustments. But it's not like they are insurmountable.

It's also the case they design their algorithms to confine the dissenting sort to separate spheres, largely to prevent influence on the broader public, in which we would naturally appear dominant.
