This is why I'm increasingly of the opinion that people should really start considering emigration options. Of course if you're willing to hold out in the U.S. by all means do so, but it wouldn't hurt to consider one's options at the very least. There are livable places out there which aren't beholden to globohomo and will accept somebody who has the grit to adapt and contribute to their society. The only caveat is that you might have to take a slight knock to your purely material standard of living - likely temporarily, though one could argue American-style creature comforts have made us weak - but the benefits could outweigh the drawbacks.

The Eastern Europeans aren't half bad, though.

I don't think it's that easy - even if you want to run, there aren't really any reliably safe places to run to. Some Eastern European countries are decent right now, but they're almost all small countries nestled in between Russia and the shitty parts of Europe, and influence from either of those could be a serious problem in the not too distant future. And most of them have EU membership which already strips a fair amount of autonomy. Worth looking into, maybe, but it's not clear it would be any better than moving to a small town in Wyoming or Alaska or something.

Towards the end of the war, in particular, they made some really dumb strategic decisions though.
