i doubt that. the union could have never accepted a peace that lets the CSA exist and uphold slavery, and the south would have never accepted a peace that would force union rule and abolition on them.

the north would not accept anything less than total submission from the south, and the south would not accept anything less than full independence and sovereignty. these positions were irreconcilable. only way for such a war to come to an end is total victory of one side over the other.

i didn't mean the north accepting southern separation but more along the lines of no reconstruction. there was the very real threat of a southern insurgency that was only stopped by the southern public's respect for Lee and his opinions.

and the north did end up accepting something less than total submission. Reconstruction ended in the 1870's due to the the growing threat of another rebellion. they allowed the south to remain the south to avoid another war.

Lee wanted a decisive battle to break northern morale but it never came. Gettysburg wasn't supposed to be a battle, both armies sort of stumbled into eachother. If Jackson or Bedford forrest were in overall command of the southern forces the war may have not turned so bad for south at the end. likely still would have lost but it would have been a negotiated peace.

Most fuck ups in military history have been from generals wanting decisive battles from what I've seen. Honestly, if it had been up to me, day one of the war I'd have left a small force behind in the south to fight unconventionally against Union attacks, and then marched the bulk of my army straight north with an emphasis on speed. I wouldn't worry about supplies since there were plenty of places that could have been sacked for supplies in the northeast, and the north had better equipment anyway. This would have robbed the Union of most of its advantages since their population size just becomes more hungry mouths to feed, and their supply lines just become fodder.

Lincoln was under the threat of losing the election too. if they had kept the pressure on at got Lincoln out it may have been possible for serious negotiations to happen.

It doesn't have to be Eastern Europe though. It's an option but far from the only one. Heck, in some cases you don't even have to leave the Western Hemisphere. Some of the states I'll mention would be completely off the table for some here (if they prefer a racially white-majority country) but that isn't really an issue for me, I care more about a country's values than the color of the people that inhabit it. Maybe that's due to being a half-caste mutt.

Belize is a country I'd rank quite high on the potential emigration list. It's English-speaking, doesn't have insane taxes, has smart economic policies and it generous in helping small-business startups - Barbados and Granada likewise. Costa Rica is similar, already has a sizable American expat population and English is widely spoken as a second language.

Botswana is Anglophone, economically stable and prosperous, has very low levels of corruption, low population density, good race relations and is open for economic investment, especially if you're interested in homesteading. Zambia (also Anglophone) is slightly poorer but also has good race relations and literally gives land away if you're interested in farming (large numbers of white farmers driven from Zimbabwe were taken in by Zambia and given sizable tracts of land to start tilling, leading to a huge agricultural boom there). The Republic of Georgia has a strong tech sector, low taxes, a good scene for creative-types and offers visa-free settlement for Americans.

There are more that I could mention but I recommend doing your own research. It's just an option worth considering.

I'm surprised Trump hasn't said anything though the Mccloskys showing up are surprising.

Kyle judging by his actions, had no intention of fighting Antifa and I won't be surprised if he disowns the right wing portrayal of him shooting Antifa cucks. The boy is definitely naieve judging by how witnesses described his behavior that night.

Not just 1871. The Austrian had a decisive advantage in numbers and artillery in 1866 at Koeniggratz in the Austro-Prussian War. And their generals threw wave after wave of their own muzzleloader-equipped infantry at the Prussian elite dug into cover and armed with breechloading Dreyse rifles like Zapp Brannigan facing killbots. Unfortunately for them, nobody's been able to discover a Prussian killbot's limit, not even the Soviet Union. To go with what @Only A Retard Sometimes said, there was no excuse for the poor showing in 1870 or 1914.

Nothing at all really, aside from having a full 1/3 of their forces either dead or wounded and having pushed the capabilities of a supply line that stretched from Pennsylvania all the way back to Virginia to its limits. His men were exhausted and low on food and ammunition, with 8k wounded that needed to be evacuated, and with his advance stopped cold the North had time to resupply and replenish its forces... a luxury Lee did not have all the way in Pennsylvania.

Wow, this topic sure went off-course.

Anyway, my favorite Civil War general would have to be Sherman. He fought the war to win, but he didn't hate the other side. The first surrender terms that he negotiated with Johnston were so lenient that President Johnson (a Democrat) rejected them and they had to be renegotiated.

"If nominated, I will not run; if elected, I will not serve." He wasn't in it for the personal glory.

At this point with the judge sweating from media, do you think if the jury reached a retarded compromise like not guilty on everything but guilty on recklessly endangering McGinnis would he JNOV or pass and let the Appeals Court unfuck a clearly unreasonable jury decision?
