Thank you! I appreciate the condolences. The truth is that Kenosha is kind of a quiet town. The kids who live there call it "Kenowhere" because of the claim that there's nothing to do (there ARE more bars and churches than probably anything else in the city). There's stuff to do, especially since the town's explosion of growth on the west side along I-94 since roughly 2000, but kids will be kids. In truth, the city has a gorgeous lakefront and several areas that are remarkably quiet (namely the northwest side, where there's a gorgeous park (Petrifying Springs) and the southwest side, Pleasant Prairie, which is where I grew up and which is about as sleepy as one could hope. All the bad shit happens in the inner city, between roughly 52nd and 63rd streets, a large circle west of Sheridan road where most of the incidents took place. That's pretty ghetto. In the 60s or so the mayor said that he wouldn't even go there without a loaded gun.Thank you for the kind words, I am sorry your community burned last year, and it gives me a huge white pill knowing folks like you are out there. Your community did good with this trial, good on those jurors and good on you!
So yeah I mean, nice medium-sized typical blue collar town. A fair number of murders over the years, but maybe a few a year (as opposed to Chicago an hour south, which is a few a day). The cops aren't overly racist. Some are dicks, some aren't. Same for most of the people. I generally never had trouble in town but I also knew that there were areas that were more risky to hang out in. To me it was always "the nice place where Orson Welles was born" and I guess now "where Mark Ruffalo is from", but other than that we're not usually on the map and we like it that way. Last year was an aberration. And an abomination. Today was a victory for what's right, more than a year in coming.
