Or at the very least, It is a shitty half truth that makes the surgeon sound evil when the reality is more like this: A surgeon might suggest weight loss in preparation for top surgery, but in almost no instances would a cosmetic surgeon (who are the ones that perform top surgeries) require it. The reality, for TiF/FTMs is that if you’re fat, the standard bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction just won’t produce a flat chest. Because there’s fat tissue there, and taking out the breast tissue still leaves fat mounds (which most born men have anyways if they’re fat). For True and Honest Men who want super flat chests even if they’re overweight, this is not going to be a satisfactory result. In those instances, the surgeon usually suggests liposuction of the area for best results. The problem is that even if you have insurance that covers transitional surgeries, liposuction is almost always considered cosmetic and will not be covered by insurance. So that usually adds a hefty $1.5-3K to your bill. Maybe this is where they’re seeing “twansphobia” - because a surgery to remove your tits is going to be much more expensive if you have to remove fat tissue around them as well.

Yes and no. Typically they’ll just want to have you cleared by your GP or a cardiologist for anesthesia but they’ll do that for skinny troons too. You have to be pretty morbidly obese/and or have severe cardiac issues for an anaesthesiologist to look at you and go “hmm, no way.” There are plenty of fatties that can still get the surgery done, I’m guessing this one included.
