The worst part is severe abuse and neglect can cause the developmental delays that make doctors think there is a genetic/organic problem. It incentivized treating kids like shit since it will manifest symptoms that will get doctors to Dx something to get that check.

Yeah it makes them breed more as well for sweet sweet gubment money.

If we think this aspect of the thread is depressing and infuriating, imagine being the social workers and medical staff who have to deal with abusive trash like this every day. These kids would be so much better off if their parents died. I know the foster care system can be horrific, but I fancy their chances better as prospective adoptive kids than with their biological parents.

Children can get ssi for being disabled and if their parents are poor. While healthcare is paid for, many social services are not free and are generally not covered entirely so they are given a stipend to offset those costs.

Their kid probably doesnt get alot since he doesn't seem to be that profoundly disabled, but they also factor in the parents assets when deciding the benefit amount so who knows. The average amount parents receive is around 600 bucks.

Being in an ER for 8+ hours for something non urgent is hell but they’ll bring their own blanket and pillow and get comfortable in the waiting room.

And oh yeah, the disability thing is generational.
Aiden (Kimmie’s medically fragile neglected looking son) has “altism” according to an old gofundme that Dalton posted, I’m sure they’re on top of him getting disability through hospital social workers, plus they would get extra food stamps for him living with them.
Dalton most likely gets his own disability check because of schizophrenia, that’s one of the few psychiatric disorders thats still pretty much a shoe in because it’s absolutely debilitating as far as executive and cognitive function and there’s no cure.
It just gets worse over time and he’s smoking crack too and unmedicated.
And if Kimmie gets her own check too, that’s $2000-$3000 coming in a month for free for 3 people not including food stamps.
More if she pops out this baby and files for WIC and cash assistance.

And Aiden and their house still looks like that.

The thing with kim that really pisses me off is SHE TOOK A TEST BEFORE GOING. She knows shes pregnant. Just like the last pregnancy she goes around to ERs and free places for 100 ultrasounds and validation. The state needs to charge her. She needs to go to OB appointments and stop clogging up everywhere. Shed be considered high risk from the diabetes, past miscarriages ect.

Hospitals are also clean environments, something that none of them see (except Sarge) on anything like a regular basis. They live their lives in dilapidated, filthy environments. A nice clean hospital, to them, is a vacation for them from their gross surroundings.

I carefully separated Sarge out from the rest of this bunch because Sarge seems to be a rare outlier who keeps himself, his dog, and his living area clean. That probably required painstaking effort by his parents to instill, after he got his head injury, but that effort has sure paid off. The rest of these losers have filthy parents, too, and probably filthy grandparents. None of them were ever taught by their parents to keep their living accommodations clean, and none of them are teaching their children to clean, either.

I'm guessing Sarge developed living skills like cleaning and keeping house from rehabilitation programs he might have had over the years. He probably has a regular routine,which is good. It's easier for those with disorganized minds to have organization in the home. It's one of the few things they can control in their lives and it's impressive.

I’m wondering if he was raised by his grandpa or an older relative because he seems like the sort of man that will wake up and make his bed automatically before leaving the room, and the rest of the characters don’t even have a bed and if they do it has filthy scooby doo sheets.

This is me tinfoiling, but he did post a few public bathroom selfies where he was clearly feeling spiffy during his van life hiccup.
I’ve always thought it was because even though he was living in a van, he seems the sort of guy who will find a gas station etc bathroom to do a sink bath and brush his teeth in the morning.

Even his dog gets baths regularly and he clearly loves that dog and makes an effort to have everything he needs for it (her? It’s a girl right?).
He’s a good dog dad when the rest of the characters abandon their offspring shortly after giving birth, and the dogs in their lives are to put it nicely, disposable.
