How difficult/expensive is it to access private healthcare in the UK? I assume it costs less than USA prices. If the wait list just to see a shrink is 26 years long, why isn't it possible to see a non-NHS one to get your diagnosis and prescriptions?
I know someone who transitioned a decade ago in America, completely uninsured while working minimum wage. At a time where trooning was way less common and healthcare was harder to access. I don't see how it could possibly be harder to do now in <CURRENT YEAR> even for the people who don't live in mansions.
This same person now attends a "segregated clinic" for trans health and talks about how much better it is than dealing with doctors who have no idea how to deal with a trans. One clinic for all your transition needs is way easier to navigate than dealing with a series of shrinks, endocrinologists, doctors, and surgeons from unrelated practices.
Olly is advocating for a step down in care by putting transgender patients in front of doctors who won't know what to do with them. If wait times are such an issue, it would be smarter to advocate for MORE trans clinics, not abolish them entirely.
