Anime News Network (ANN), Christopher Macdonald & Co. - "Unbiased" Reporting on All Things Anime Related By Snobbish Quebec-Based Web Company. Acquired by Kadokawa.

Well, one of their writers had slithered over from Kotaku where he got infamous for writing "Sword Art Online Is The Smartest Anime I've Seen In Years"
Which is especially funny considering the bitch-fits ANN and their ilk had over SAO daring to show sexual assault.

Look, that's life, okay? Bad things happen, good people suffer, and people try to rape other people. Stop being pussies and GET OVER IT.

Yeah but Eisenbeis has ANN writer privileges so he's allowed to like SAO. Just like Theron gets to give Shield Hero and Cross Ange good reviews and Kim Morissy is a bigtime Mushoku Tensei fan.

Since an article from Heidi Kemps came up, I would like to bring up that a few months back she wrote a game review for Touken Ranbu on ANN a few months back that sparked massive butthurt from that game's fandom, which led Lynzee to write this long tweet thread.

You know, it makes me wonder why she's been gone for the last week or so. It's almost as if your actions will have consequences, especially if you do stupid shit just to get money.

The problem is loarider, the dead fuck whom Lynzee and friends ride his maggot infested dick to this day made it his agenda to "make anime they way they want it" through collusion of a news company they control, and they especially control information and news on anime. Moreover, said dead fuck worshiped Robert Ebert, a pretentious coattail riding fatass bottomfeeder whose opinion has been constantly referenced on nearly every movie commercial since he was alive.

Don't ever hide under the illusion of "subjectiveness" and "open interpretation" when you fuckheads call yourselves the fucking NEWS. Fuck you.

My cents on the thread;

1. Dude, you got someone fired from Anime Herald for criticizing ANN's FukaBoku review and saw Gabbo get some guy fired from the con he was staff at over half-decade-old tweets, yet now you're taking umbrage at the army of butthurt fujos for wanting one of your reviewers fired?
2. That Takato guy who's everywhere on ANN's forums is in the replies, and he compares the Touken Ranbu fans to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut. lmao

If anything, Comiket is more renowned than anime conventions... well, anywhere outside of Japan. They could charge you 100 bucks just to enter, and the rest of the nation and the world would probably not care because Japan literally is fucking Animeland and makes the fucking anime. If anything it would provide incentive for otaku to get up off their asses and do something with their lives.
I'm curious to see how this affects Comiket really. The main draw of Comiket is that it has an ass-load of doujinshi creators (some professional) who sell books you can't really get anywhere else because Japan is willing to look the other way on copyright for this type of material. But it works because it brings in a fuckton of people who the vendors then sell to. If you restrict the number of people in attendance and also take some of their money at the door, you potentially are going to take a big bite out of the earnings of the people selling doujinshi. Some of whom print thousands of their work for this show. Comiket is not really comparable to western anime conventions. It is a completely different beast and works in an entirely different way.

From an attendee perspective, this could be beneficial because it gets crowded as fuck. But the whole reason all those people go is because of the vendors and if you slash the attendees then I have to assume it will have a major negative impact on vendors in the near term and potential long-term bad consequences.

I know already. I know how Comiket works. I'm also curious as to how this plays out.

I'm just here to be a fucking asshole and shit on a bunch of fucking morons whose idea of change is to whine, whine, whine. Not like my yellings will influence anything.

Knowing Japan and how 2020 saw no Comiket, I'm very sure doujinshi circles know very well of what kind of conditions are like post quarantine for the next available Comiket. The fees I mentioned aren't even a lot, they're practically just as equivalent to the fees you'd see out at a convention out west. It's insulting that the peanut gallery at ANN of all places has the gall to show its pathetic excuse of "sympathy" towards Comiket, as if Japan and the manga and anime industry "doesn't know what it's doing". Bunch of fucking shitheels.

Also I came across a blogger article a while back that explains the necessity of an in person comiket. To sum it up, print stores need the money from doujin makers and they have shrunk because covid reduced demand and we also got a shipping crisis as a double fuck you
Spending some cash to attend an event makes it easier for people to buy a comic vs being at home and waiting for your faps

Anime News Network would be the type to act like this when trying to rationalize why the Cowboy Bebop live action series is a good thing:

They actually aren't liking it. No review yet, but on Twitter writer Steve Jones has made tweets criticizing it that got RTd by Lynzee, Caitlin, and other.

I still remember this & how much of a PR disaster this bitch's clout whoring would've been. She literally went topless in a movie & did some tiny bikini scenes in The Detour.

Okay, I'm not going to be an asshole here because we're all humans at the end of the day. Nick has my condolences, at least he's safe.

Ehhh Nick had no problem wishing death and ill fortune on people in the past so this just seems like karma akin to TotalBiscuit's "get cancer and die". Although at least TB did good for the gaming community.

Wait he did that? Unless you're conflating him with the other guy named Nick (Nick Creamer/Bobduh) who wrote for ANN but doesn't anymore

Only one I remember offhand was the Trump stuff, but he was also the reviewer really in love with Moriarty the Patriot and fantasied about killing rich people a lot.

Yeah, good to know no one died, but all that's missing is the cause of the fire, whether it was just faulty wiring, or if he/his mom was being careless, or a combination of both à la 14 Branchland Court fire. It could be a case of karma or just all-around bad luck of the draw.

Couldn't find it, but I distinctly remember Caitlin wishing pain on Jeko (or was she liking someone else's reply saying it?). It was when her "Shield Hero bad Twelve Kingdoms good" AniFem article got called out by him, and she subsequently called him out for harassment and had her followers report her, and that was somewhere in the replies.

re: Nick's fire, he has a GoFundMe set up by some family friend that's currently at $5,810 out of the $10k goal as of this writing.

Yeah, his mom's name and Facebook account are in the GoFundMe but I have taste so let's not think about doxxing when the guy's family is literally trying to recover from a fire. Glad people have been able to donate

Also again about their encyclopedia, AniDB and MAL exist now. There are also dub related sites if you care about those kinds of credits. I don't really understand giving clicks to people that literally hate you.
Eh, I'd argue all of them have their issues. ANN's the most comprehensive by far, but also run by complete hypocritical dictators and missing dozens of titles or have unfinished pages for the ones that do. AniDB is more user friendly, but their encyclopedia is largely incomplete and often inaccurate with credits (not helped by some entries simply just giving the Japanese names of the animators and not their translated ones). And MAL simply doesn't go into the nuts and bolts of anime production despite being the one with the least drama behind it.

Incase you were wondering, donations from ANN people and adjacent actually make up a decent chunk of it (right next to an anonymous $2000 donation). Among others Lynzee donated $100 (some others donated that amount too), and Caitlin donated $200
