Shit that you overheard during Thanksgiving (2021)

As a native, I could give a fuck less about the awareness of the holiday. I literally saw a gigantic Goku hover through New York during the Thanksgiving Day parade. How can you hate a holiday that has that?
I just don't see how "let's all take a day off and have a nice meal with our families" and "we should remember as a society that some of the Europeans who settled what is now this country were pretty rapey and murdery to the natives that were already here" are mutually exclusive.

Everything was a little off this year. For example, when we brine our turkey we add oranges and lemons and I usually put a few pieces in the cavity. For the first time ever we missed a lemon quarter and an orange quarter and so they got baked with the stuffing.

The real bummer was that we got a call from the neighbor of my elderly great-aunt. She's a lifelong hoarder, in her 70s, and has memory problems. She stopped paying the bill for her landline and keeps losing cellphones. The neighbor was just concerned about her state and wanted to talk to us about her, and it was sad having to explain that we're aware of the situation and are trying to get things happening, but our hands are legally tied and there's very little we can actually do.

We don't have Thanksgiving in Bongland, but these types of threads are always interesting. One thing I'm curious about though: Since turkey is obviously the main part of the Thanksgiving meal, what meat do yanks tend to have with the Christmas dinner?

Traditionally it's supposed to be goose but nobody does that anymore, it's usually also turkey or spiral ham or both.

There were plenty of leftovers and not many dishes to wash (we use old Bavarian family heirloom plates/tableware for holidays and I can't put them in the dishwasher) since only a small number of relatives could make it this year.
Food was good. My pie turned out alright. Overall, good time.

How much for the Nigger Knocker (tm)? Does it come with a certificate of authenticity?

Is it…well-used?
My Papaw used to tell me stories about how him and his friends used to corner faggots at the gay hook up spots back in the 60s and they would beat the fags asses and rob them. He had to stop because the police started patrolling the area and wanted a cut of the money so I can only imagine it's been used before, if not then than one of the many other fights he's been in.

You're grandpa sounds hella fucking based

Already had a friendsgiving earlier this week, friends because families suck sometimes.
I brought some bacon and cheese rolls which were devoured instantly, so I am incredibly proud of myself this year.

Had a buddy cook up burgers for our "actual thanksgiving" and then we played vidya with him the rest of the day.
Great thanksgiving, spent time with friends and family and ate food.

Yeah he would always tell me not to trust any of those niggers and that he only ever met one smart nigger in his life who he described as an African-American rather than a nigger. He also he used to always get in fights with "Mexicans" (all Spanish people were Mexican) because he would go up to them and say "Alright I don't like you, your language, or your country and yall best go on back to where you came from" (he even said this to my brother's Spanish wife). I'm sure the nigger nocker came into use in at least one of these confrontations. This was my first Thanksgiving without him.

I think ham is most popular. Some people do another turkey or a roast beef. Less popular but not unheard of is duck or take-out, usually Chinese. In the Southwest various Mexican/Tex-Mex dishes, especially tamales, are popular.

Drove with family to the other side of the state to see other family. Ate Turkey and stuff. I was the only non vax there so I'll out live all of them or die first. One of the two.

Nothing much, I work a night schedule including the night before so I didn't interact much with people; still came down for dinner, and it's really hard to want to stick around the area when there's limited seating and 8 people in the 10 & under category.

No politics, but I had to tell my cousin (part of another conversation), that I will not be searching for "Smurfette feet" on Google in regards to what her shoes looked like.
