I think the reason why some of those old crossdressing movies worked was because
A: there were very few people cross dressing in general, so the idea that someone might pass was probably easier to sell.
B: none of the characters actually *thought* they were the sex they were pretending to be. It was always outside circumstances forcing it and it was always played for laughs.

Also see “Some Like it Hot” , “Victor/Victoria” and every Bugs Bunny cartoon from the 40s. People crossdressing for hilarity is long and storied.

It's also worth noting that almost no trans people just want to "blend in" they want to be conspicuously perceived as whatever gender they are. Same with some mtfs could in passing probably pass for frumpy old women but they don't want that. They want to be seen as kawaii school girls or bimbo dumpster sluts. He also claims that estrogen worsenes autoimmune disorders, hence why more women suffer from them than men. He thinks that estrogen definitely made his autoimmune disorders worse and he even developed new ones. And it seems that he's right and that there is a correlation, at least this is what google showed me when I searched for "estrogen and autoimmune diseases"

We should also keep in mind that men only have one X-Chromosome and hence are mostly more prone to develop certain diseases than women. So it could even be that estrogen is even worse for men, since they are less able to even out certain illnesses with a second X-Chromosome.
