Oh god, I am sorry for contributing to this. PCOS is a misnomer, while it was originally accepted that ovarian cysts were the important diagnostic indicator for PCOS this is probably incorrect. Elevated androgen levels are probably the most relevant criteria and yes you can have PCOS without having ovaries. There are studies done that seem to indicate men can have PCOS as well. This is why people are starting to refer to it as Stein-Leventhal syndrome.
