This pretty much is the case. Ever since the Idea Guys (IIRC) were the ones who put this stupid idea of Da Merge into the head of OPL, it basically was a free ticket in his head that whatever happens in this life doesn't matter, because it will all get reset and Chris becomes the multi-faceted deity he's dreamed of being since arguably the golden years of lolcowdom. Its all the validation he needs that his escapist delusions are preferable to facing the reality he's a nearly 40 year old loser with no friends, no romantic prospects that interest him, and the only family he has left could literally drop dead any given day now.
I don't think "trick" is necessary. The comorbidity factors in Chris's life suggest, to me, that he will have a real cancer soon. Bowel would be my guess by his diet and incontinence, but his build and sasient lifestyle are reasonably going to kill him by dozens of cancers. He will think a lump on his face is an ASMR breast growing.

I dunno, Chris always has believed himself to be a celebrity before he absolutely went off the deep end, as evidenced in the early videos where he thinks he has an army of followers he can order to do things.
