Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey Stepping Down, Report Says

If it follows Tumblr's trajectory, they'll ban porn off the platform in 4 years and everyone will fuck off to Instagram or something similar.
Pixiv artists have a related Mastodon instance called Pawoo, I'm sure if things go as bad as we'd expect. A lot will just create a user on that platform. Which is great if you're on the Fediverse.

Doesn't Instagram have a porn ban in place already?
Yeah, they do. I follow a couple of e-thots and pornstars (sue me), and they're always moping in their IG Stories about their lewd posts getting flagged. Also IG's algorithms prevent their posts from getting seen if they mention "OnlyFans", so I often see e-thots posting lewds with their private parts censored with emojis and in their captions it says something like "See the full photos on that website which shall not be named, link in bio..."

Doesn't Instagram have a porn ban in place already? I honestly think Discord will be the next mass migration terminus, but artists will hate it because you can't exactly get the same dopamine hit from engagement numbers on Discord that you would on Twitter. It's a completely different system.
Despite being a very different format from forums, mass migration to Discord (or a service like it) would ironically bring back some of the feeling of the pre-2010’s Internet, which was dominated by various small forums and chat rooms where people with shared interests would coalesce.

Regardless of what problems it may have, IMO Discord is still vastly preferable to the god-awful centralized social media that has dominated the last decade+.

Discord is even worse about censorship than twitter. Centralization is always bad.

Twitter remains important if you deal with regional politics, because journalists spend their entire lives on twitter and nowhere else.

It's why Twitter sucks so hard, but if you need establishment journalists to help achieve your aims, you have to put up with it.

Journos will not find the fediverse.

Eta: Don't tell Journos about the fediverse. Please. Twitter is their containment thread.

Jumping from Twitter to Discord is barely an upgrade. It's a platform still based in Silicon Valley and beholden to Big Tech, and they have openly stated their censorious intent time and again.

Ive seen a couple of people lamenting Jack Dorsey leaving, saying he was one of the few Silicon Valley billionaires who was actually opposed to censorship and in favour of free speech.

Who gives a shit? If he never actually stopped anyone getting banned and allowed the site to slip into censoring more and more of its content, what good it it being opposed to censorship if your not going to do anything about it?

He's moving onto square and cashapp, where he is also promising it will be 'open' and 'for everyone' but just wait till there no more competitors and suddenly your assets are frozen by the company because you used no-no wordds.

I hate Jack Dorsey and I hope he keels over from a heart attack.

"Well with all the Twitter censorship, at least there is no way that Twitter can get any worse..."
BUT IT DID GET WORSE

Honestly, I fully embrace the downfall of tech giants through their own retardation and want it to accelerate to a point where normies finally leave. I left social media in all forms a few years ago. Not cause of all the shitty shady things I knew they were doing, but because after 2016 it stopped being fun. People take the internet too seriously. Embracing having my small less active places online to check out has lead me to take care or more fulfilling things IRL and become happier as I connect more with tasks in real life like DIY and nature. Fingers crossed globohomo can fuck up everything so bad that people stop using their social media and start going out to get a beer and meet people.

This feels like when a big company puts a diversity shield in place while the board does a bunch of unpopular things, then gets a popularity boost kicking them out, putting a white man back in charge and reverting none of the unpopular changes. See Ellen Pao->Spez and Reddit.

I'm ready for the 🌈 bukkake of saying it(oh wait, we're in politisperg isolation subforum), but considering Twitter's catered user base, I might support changes they find unsavory.

The issue with Pawoo and a lot of other East Asian instances is the fact that they detest westerners and refuse to admit anyone to their instances that speak English (and rightfully so, since American users on Twitter love to lecture Japanese artists about problematic character design but I digress). Decentralized art communities are bit of a double-edged sword because while gatekeeping is effective and largely a force for good, it also acts as a deterrent from new users joining said instance and helping it grow.

As it stands, Fedi and especially Mastodon isn't a great place for artists looking to score commissions, and a low userbase is only secondary to the real issue that a lot of the communities on Mastodon are just as censorious and gatekeepy as Twitter mods. There just isn't a satisfying answer to the problem at hand yet, but what might get the ball rolling is if more users disenfranchised by Twitter's policies get fed up with it and see a reason to try alternative platforms.

Who the fuck cares. Jack getting swapped out is going to change nothing since Jack barely had any control over the site as it is. The site was run by the tranny jannies for years and censored based on their hurt feelings.

This is just going to accelerate the ever increasing downfall of Twitter. Thank god I only use it to follow Japanese artists and the occasional western porn artist.

nah
large discord servers resemble subreddits more than they resemble the small forums and chatrooms of yesteryear

Featured on Nov 29, 2021 at 11:24 AM: Jack Dorsey has left Twitter and will be replaced by an Indian who holds open contempt for US standards for speech.
Did Jack know that 9 times out of 10, the Punjabis tend to be like extremely sexist, xenophobic yaddy yadda?

I can't wait for what comes next, this guy's either going to get relentlessly bullied for holding the wrong opinions or worshipped because he's a "minority" according to the rules set by SJWs.
