Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Dem senator warns Supreme Court of 'revolution' if Roe v. Wade is overturned​

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., issued a warning to the Supreme Court days before oral arguments in a potential landmark abortion case, claiming that a "revolution" will take place if the high court overturns existing precedent.

During a virtual event Monday featuring New Hampshire's entire House and Senate delegation, WMUR reporter Adam Sexton had asked if public debate over abortion had "muted" due to many people in the U.S. only knowing life post-Roe v. Wade. Shaheen asserted that nothing would be muted about the reaction to a possible overturning of that decision.

"I hope the Supreme Court is listening to the people of the United States because – to go back to Adam Sexton’s question – I think if you want to see a revolution go ahead, outlaw Roe v. Wade and see what the response is of the public, particularly young people," Shaheen said toward the end of the event. "Because I think that will not be acceptable to young women or young men."

The Supreme Court's current makeup – a 6-3 majority of justices appointed by Republicans – has led to speculation that they might overturn Roe v. Wade, which recognized a right to get an abortion before a fetus is viable, generally about 23 or 24 weeks into pregnancy. Wednesday's case, Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health, centers on a Mississippi law that clearly challenges Roe by banning abortion after 15 weeks.

"I’ve lived the consequences of the pre-Roe era – I had friends in college who were forced to seek dangerous back alley abortions because women across the country were denied access to critical family planning services. We cannot allow Republican lawmakers to turn back the clock on women’s reproductive health and rights, which is precisely what the Mississippi case seeks to do. It is time to sound the alarm," Shaheen said in a separate statement. "Roe v. Wade isn’t just a decision that impacts women, their health and their financial security – it also impacts generations of families."

Shaheen's warning was reminiscent of a comment made by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer during an abortion rights rally in June 2020. Speaking as the court heard arguments in a different case dealing with restrictions on who can provide abortions, Schumer gave a warning to conservative justices that bordered on threatening.

"I want to tell you, Gorsuch. I want to tell you, Kavanaugh. You have released the whirlwind and you will pay the price!" Schumer yelled. "You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions."

Those remarks prompted Chief Justice John Roberts to rebuke the Democratic leader later that day.

"Justices know that criticism comes with the territory, but threatening statements of this sort from the highest levels of government are not only inappropriate, they are dangerous," Roberts said in a statement. "All Members of the Court will continue to do their job, without fear or favor, from whatever quarter."

Shaheen's colleague, Sen. Maggie Hassan, D-N.H., also appeared at the event. She called the Mississippi law "a direct attack on decades of precedent," and said "the Supreme Court should not put government in front of women's most personal, difficult, and complicated health care decisions."

Roe v Wade was a consequence of the pro abortionists agreeing that the ideal is safe, legal, and rare. They immediately then used abortion as birth control to the point where more black babies are aborted in nyc every year than are born. They violate the social contract, they suffer the consequences.

So I work at the big minneapolis/st paul airport in mn and have for 20 years, I've worked there in both of bush's terms, both obama terms, trumps term and now biden's term.

I work in fuel in the far corner of the airport dealing with the cargo haulers, about as far as you can get from passengers and passenger aircraft.

Yesterday my whole shift got completly shat on because when air force one was landing, I was forced to stop my work and go inside for about a half hour both when it landed and when it left. Inside operations were able to continue so I spent even more time chasing down things that were now being moved around before I could get to them wasting even more time.

I can 100% attest that I have never been told to get the fuck inside because air force one was touching down a mile or two away.

The animal rights folks argue the standard that should be used to determine a being's rights is not can they think, but can they feel? I would argue that if a fetus can demonstrate that it feel pain, then it has developed a nervous system and the brain capacity to register that pain. Should a hamster have more rights than a viable human fetus? In the absence of a stated constitutional right to abortion?

Sotomayor looks like she'd willingly gobble down a few hamsters if hungry enough so I doubt I'd ever convince her.

But all the overturning of the verdict would mean is that it goes back to the states to decide. If you don't like not being able to kill your kid whenever you want, you can just move to a state that allows you to.

It's just mind-boggling to fathom that they would let such a stupid and half-assed verdict stand.

Sotomayor apparently brought up the idea that a fetus can't really feel pain when it doesn't have a brain, but could still look like it feels it due to natural recoil. Makes it look like a compromise is on her mind about just moving the point they're comfortable with abortion.



The Daubert standard being a matter of the admissibility of expert witnesses. So basically scoffing at the notion of any medical scientist being allowed in to say that a fetus could feel pain because she figures even a corpse can look like it feels pain.



So it sounds like Sotomayor is seriously arguing that we have no way of telling if anyone is alive or dead so we can't really know if we're hurting or killing anyone. At the same time, there are arguments being made about how people have rights that aren't in the constitution so abortion not being in the constitution doesn't mean we should do away with it.

Just a reminder: overturning Roe v. Wade doesn't make abortion illegal; it just takes it back down from the federal level to the state level.

If you live in New York or California, overturning RvW means literally nothing. If you live in Texas, it means a lot probably.

This all interesting. I just find it annoying that the Leftist judge are making this sound like overturning Roe vs Wade is going to ban abortion when it won't!!! It will become a state issue. This is why I hate Lefties when it comes to Roe vs Wade they act all smart and that "conservatives are dumb about this issue" when in reality they constantly referred to it as if overturning the rule will make abortion illegal when I a pro-life conservative know for a fact it won't!! Who's the real idiot there.

Methinks that's part of why the establishment itself is taking it up as a crusade. If there's a sudden exodus of (likely) blue voters from states like Texas they can give up any dreams of making them purple and they may even see an Exodus from some of the other battleground states. They want people to keep spreading into red states to flip them blue, not leave them because those dastardly red states tell them infanticide isn't okay.

It won’t happen. I’d love it if it did, but it won’t happen. I think you’ll see a narrow decision that tries to give each “side” a little so that both “sides” can claim a W and dunk on the other “side” online.
 
Hard for me to not see what the pro-choice side did as trying for all or nothing. Soto continued acting like a dumbass trying to say they can't listen to any scientists, that brain dead people looking like they feel pain is proof fetuses can't feel it, and that people have rights that aren't stated in the constitution.

Then you even have the fact that Soto doing all this essentially means she's arguing against the other justices on when you can consider the fetus 'viable'. Which as Turley mentions leaves a "steep cliff problem".

They've always been the most advanced and Westernized of the African nations, even managing to kick Italy's ass in the late 1800's and keep their independence until the 1930's when Mussolini finally gassed them into submission with chemical weapons. They've also been Christian since before a good chunk of the West thanks to successful missionary efforts by a few shipwrecked sailors. They've also had substantial ties with the western world for as long as there's been a western world given their location south of Egypt and on the major Red Sea trade routes. In short, they like the West, as in the actual West and not just some cargo cult version of the West.

Now, I’m a bit conflicted about this as someone who’s very much in favor of empowering people to make their own, independent decisions on matters related to abortion, vaccines, medical care, assisted dying, 2A rights, etc. with minimal government interference…

However, I don’t think that toasting abortion pills as if they were beers on the steps of SCOTUS is going to garner you much sympathy. Displays like this are what increasingly lead people to be generally supportive of abortion, but unperturbed if slight, unburdening restrictions are applied.

Given that abortion is a left-wing policy, with all the recent left-wing policies being passed lately, red states would be more hesitant to pass such a law because of recent events.

In a way, they screwed themselves.
 
Have we gotten a biden twitter statement today saying something about how he is monitoring Supreme Court and something about women's health or sacred right to choose?
