High Guardian Spice - Tumblr: The CalArt Anime

I think of on the other problems that shows like this tend to do is trying to make us like the character without putting in the work for it.

We're supposed to like the main characters simply because they are the main characters when we barely know shit about them and typically have a personality of a lamp post. There has to be something there to make people want to latch onto a character, hence why so many villains or antagonists are often popular within a fandom.

There's also the fact that they try to get the characters to be all buddy with each other within the first few episodes. It would have been better to have had Thyme or Snapdragon, continue to be semi antagonistic to the main cast for a while in the series before finally letting down their guard. Instead, the writers want you to care more about shipping each of the members with each other then actual social cohesion. I swear Thyme looks like she doesnt want to even be in the show let alone hang around with the main cast..

But yeah, I think a lot of these sjw shows value "friendship and shipping" more than proper characterization and it really shows.

I've actually posted in this thread before, but, for the life of me, I can't remember the login credentials for that account. I could only remember the email for this unused account that I don't even remember making. But whatever!

Writer Kate Leth has been getting harassed by people mad about High Guardian Spice and one of the main things they've chosen to try to hurt her with is her doomed affair with a married man who died of cancer.

Now, a normal person would ignore the trolls and talk to a friend or therapist about their problems. Kate Leth, however, is a borderline personality disorder nightmare person, so she's incapable of dealing with anything without making a big public scene to cause drama and get attention from her thousands of followers. So, she's made a yet another webcomic about her affair with a married man with terminal cancer!

Wow, there's a lot to unpack here.
  • Panel 1: In case you can't read it, the word covered up by BLOCK is "homewrecking"
  • Panel 2: LOL Kate says he "disappeared" like he stepped out for a pack of cigarettes and didn't come back or something. He didn't disappear. He Fucking DIED!
  • Panel 3: 23-year-old women are stupid babies who don't know anything, therefor all the blame should fall on the older man.
  • Panel 4: What exactly did this "hurt" entail? Is the broken glass and blood just symbolism for her emotional pain? Did he throw her through a window? She has a self-harming issue, did she cut herself over him? Is it just shocking imagery because she wants attention?
And, keep in mind, for about an entire fucking year she incessantly posted about her "older boyfriend" and how cool and awesome he was, before drunkenly confessing he was a married man. I guess he was actually awful now, though.

Oh, and she's getting her tits lopped off soon.
Why do people only blame you, you dumb bitch? You want to know why?
Because you knew he was married and you were a sidepiece and STILL WENT FOR IT. You're not the goddamn victim here, his wife is, sorry to disappoint your victim complex.
Stop making grown women out to have the intellect of young children like you want to believe.

Isn't she infamous for her male-hating social media posts? But dating men and proudly posting about her romp adventures is fine and dandy? This woman doesn't make any sense.

Anyway, Crunchyroll just can't let their franchise die, they keep on shoving it in the news articles:

Reminder that is canon that the trans guy professor and the two lesbians have threesomes. I'm too lazy to find the clip but it's a thing.
They said in that clip something along the lines of "We go to the same parties" before getting immediately flushed :story:
Orgies, man. Not just threesomes.

Man I want to see that clip. Come on Kiwifarmers, don't let me down!

Also how the fuck does that work? Are these lesbian orgies? If that's the case, why is the professor being invited? Or are these bisexual orgies? In which case, you'd think the "esteemed" professor would keep that on the downlow to avoid embarrassment amongst his colleagues and students. Also, if their bisexual, does that mean the two lesbians are actually bi and have sex with men at these parties.

What, and not be out and proud?! What are ya, a homophobe?!

And this show was originally pitched as a children's show. Holy fucking shit, what is wrong with these people?
Adult humor in children's shows can work when it's sudden, well-paced, and self-explanatory. When you fail, not only is awkward and confusing but opens an entire can of worms of implications of the universe you're creating.

For example, are orgies a common thing in this world? Why Rosemary acts like this is a normal thing? Are magical orgies a thing she is aware of? Do the two lesbians have an open relationship? Why are they so open about it discussing it in front of literal minors, especially a guy that works as a professor with children? Does that mean that the school accepts this kind of behavior? It's talking about sexuality more accepted in this universe?

A failed joke in a non-comedy-focused show is always a potential black hole of storytelling: in one line, you can view the characters in a completely different way the author intended.

The implication that the “responsible, moral, role model” adult characters are involved in that kind of degeneracy is why the joke isn’t funny—just disgusting. If it was like, in South Park or something it would make more sense, but in a show with a tone like this it just comes across as trying to normalize gross shit.

"Sure, I was gonna turn it off and not expose myself to such a piece of shit. But then it acknowledged I'm a pervert in a way normies won't understand. JUST LIKE ANIME! THESE PEOPLE GET US!" - what the HGS team thought was gonna be the reaction

both comments above - the actual reaction
