Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

New York City set a local mandate. I guess they think/know the federal ones will fail and they can stack the deck in an NY court.

This is how blue cities and states are going to get around Biden's federal mandates collapsing in general. Take a look at those deadlines too.

Georgia M. Pestana, New York City’s corporation counsel, said at a news conference on Monday that the city’s health commissioner clearly has the legal authority to issue a mandate to protect New Yorkers during a health crisis. She argued that the legal questions over the Biden administration’s mandate were different and centered on whether OSHA had the proper authority.
What worries me about this part is that as far as I know (and I admittedly don't know much) there's nothing stopping NYC health commission from declaring a perpetual state of emergency. Let's say for the sake of argument that these mandates successfully achieve 100% inoculation among the Five Boroughs, clear across the board, and yet there's still infections and residents are still getting covid even with two jabs and a booster. Municipal authorities can't blame the unvaxxed anymore since they've effectively been banned from the city itself. Rather than admitting that these requirements for living are draconian and ineffective, they'll double down and just make the health emergency powers written law or something comparably horrifying.

I've thought about this scenario since July when DeBlasio announced a mandate for indoor dining, museums, theaters, etc. None of the articles I read on the matter seemed to indicate whether or not this measure was intended to be temporary, so I'm lead to believe in the absence of evidence that NYC will attempt to enforce this for as long as possible, even if infection rates go down.

Eric Adams, the mayor-elect who takes office on Jan. 1, is on vacation in Ghana this week. His spokesman, Evan Thies, said in a statement that Mr. Adams would evaluate the measure once he is mayor.

“The mayor-elect will evaluate this mandate and other Covid strategies when he is in office and make determinations based on science, efficacy and the advice of health professionals,” he said.
Gotta love that big fat nothingburger answer. Maybe Adams will surprise us and roll back some restrictions while provisionally keeping others as new data comes in that proves the vaccines aren't curbing infections, but on the other hand, I can also see him following DeBlasio's example and enforcing mandates for as long as the masses are able to be kept in a state of fear and paranoia.

However, even if you might not see it in your boilerplate blue state metro area, people are getting fed up with the fear porn these journos are shitting out, vaccinated or not, and unless I'm completely unable to read the room, Omicron hasn't been received with the same degree of irrational terror among normies as Delta back in July. It accounts for the majority of new infections and the mortality rate is next to nonexistent. It wasn't Omicron that terrified me, but the thought of what politicians would do in response to it.

I sincerely hope a New Yorker ensures de Blasio leaves office earlier.
Did you notice this line?

The de Blasio mandate also does not apply to a big sector opf workers who are in daily contact with millions of New Yorkers — state employees like MTA workers.

They're pretty blatantly trying to just shore up their gov run.

Tbf, the sheer WTF of that election threw a lot of people for a loop. The history books that will come out could have a field day over the fallout of having the election get blatantly stolen like that and he's far from the biggest cuck I saw from that shit. I had full on innawoods larpers change tack massively before my eyes and the sheer cuckold coming from the right when it saw that election get stolen more or less sealed their fate on that front.

The founding fathers would have stacked bodies over a year ago by this point (or arguably, even before that). I suspect there are a bunch of uncucked right wingers who would be willing to fight as long as there was an organized armed resistance to already join, they just don't want to be some lone gunman who barely does any damage before being taken out by a dozen different government sharpshooters.

If Great Depression 2.0 hits, that's when you'll see how far early 21st century Americans can be pushed

NYC employers must soon mandate proof of COVID-19 vaccine, de Blasio announces

I'm sure as hell not enforcing this on my employees. On a side note it takes effect 4 days before de Blasio leaves office.
Jerseyite here, I often get called into NYC for work-related stuff. If you don't mind me asking, how exactly has NYC been enforcing this on employers since that indoor activity mandate in July? Does the health department make random compliance-related inspections now? Do you have to show them scans of your employees' vax cards? How much of the proof is expected to be digital?

Sorry for the bombardment. I really wanna learn these things from somewhere so I know what to expect for the next time I land a two-week contract in Manhattan, or possibly in-house work.

real mystery why 99% of the human race doesn't agree with anything these guys want when they're getting mad over people wanting to go Christmas shopping

Who wants to tell her she can still catch and spread it and even die despite being vaxmaxxed?

Also, pull your mask up love, not protecting yourself or anyone else like that!

Honestly, though, it's a real shame that they're so frightened to leave their homes without the poison jab. I'm about a third of the way through that book I shared earlier on in the thread, Laura Dodsworth's A State of Fear. Really recommend giving it a read if you haven't yet, really drives home just how strong the propaganda has been.

Workplace was planning a big in-person gathering for all the remote workers who've never gotten a chance to meet their coworkers. They announced it about 2 weeks ago, with full vaccination proof requirements for anyone who wanted to attend (and none-too-subtle insinuations that you'd really miss out if you didn't go).

Now they've gone and said "actually it's too uncertain and lots of people feel unsafe so we can't do it."

When will they figure out the ride never ends?
Yeah I know some companies who’ve been WFH for over 18 months with no indication of returning to normal. I share an office building with one of them, and when I look through the glass door of their open-plan it is always totally empty, like 10% capacity at the very most. It smells like an attempt of alienation/atomisation of the workplace to me.

When someone says publicly they want to murder me and passes a law to make that happen I take them at their word. You think they're playing chicken and just mean to cow their opposition? I doubt it.
Well that is sorta what I meant by neutralize. But I see your point too--I was referring to like activists and other problem children and you were (I think referring) to using them to manage the stragglers left over. Truth probably somewhere in the middle.

More than 1% of most countries will never take the vaccine. Even here in Branch Covidian central at least 5% of the population have told the government to get fucked even on pain of losing their livelihoods and being unable to access almost any public service or business, I should know as I'm one of them. What will the Austrian government do with someone like me when 95% of the population have been cowed into rolling up their sleeves? They're going to let it slide? "Nah we're good now, just kidding". The pushback they'd get from their Branch Covidian base would be intolerable. Once you threaten people with these kinds of punishments the gloves are off. I'll leave it there but things are going to be getting very fucking interesting in the coming months.
Here is what I expect; I expect the pendulum to swing back HARD in blowback to the "Great Reset". I expect it to fail. I also expect the planners of it are okay with a failure because making it any number of steps along the way to their goal is still to their benefit. Even if my wildest conspiracy theories are accurate, this is just too much to coordinate worldwide for it to work out.

Total global feudalism is just the completionist stretch goal.

Regardless, a worldwide decimation of the middle classes is now locked in and is totally assured.

I believe some countries are going to endure horrors beyond the levels seen in WW2. I believe some are already there, and for others momentum is going to bring them to that point.

I also believe other countries are going to fare much better. whether through a combination of checks & balances, national unity and organized resistance, or perhaps apathy as a target (hey Africa!). Remember, the Baby Boom came out of the USA exiting WW2 on top.

I also agree things are going to become very interesting shortly. I believe we are at the end of the beginning. We were on track to a crash worse than 2008 before COVID even became a thing, now we are on track for something far worse than even the Great Depression. Entire regions are going to be unrecognizable and inhospitable by the end of next year.

In other news my father-in-law is currently hospitalized and admitted after taking the jab. What angers me the most about this (other than it being an irrational decision based on the known facts that were available to him this entire time), is that my sister in law had serious complications after her booster three weeks ago, and was hospitalized. He changed his mind after that but then changed it again and went ahead and got the jab. Between that and a hard conversation with a friend this weekend who is not doing well financially I feel like Cassandra right now. But hey, my wife is back at work after a bout with the coof and taking horse dewormer to cure it, so at least she listens to me.

I will leave with a fun fact: did you know the 5-year survival rate of Acute Myocarditis is less than 20%?

I believe the plan for many places is to try and force remotes back into the office after January.

The reason is to force vaccine compliance even higher.

Italy has introduced tougher restrictions for unvaccinated people amid concern over the Omicron variant and a potential spike in infections.

Many public activities will be off limits to anyone without a so-called Covid Super Green Pass from Monday.

The pass shows proof of vaccination, or recovery from the virus within the last six months.
It will be needed to enter theatres, cinemas, music venues, sports events, restaurants and bars until mid-January.

The new measures strengthen the existing Covid green passes, which can be obtained following a negative test. The basic green passes will now be required to use public transport, as well as to access places of work.

About 73% of the total population have been fully vaccinated and 11% have had booster shots, according to the latest data.

Even so, several Italian cities have imposed rules obliging people to wear facemasks, even in outdoor settings such as crowded shopping streets.

Italy introduced green passes in August for access to cultural and social venues before extending them to workplaces in October.

Hungary is going ahead with the vaccination plan, so far all things point to following Austria. The goverment is also heavily insisting that Sputnik and Sinopharm is just as good as Pfizer.

Most of the talk is young people worried that the westerners will not allow them to travel with ruski or ching vaccine.

Also don't make so many jew jokes because it makes me happy. I want to believe that this is a jew made death vaccine because I want my racism validated, comparing this to the good times of Nazi Germany isn't doing anybody any favours. Except me, I love nazis!
