New: The Biden administration is exploring options for a potential evacuation of Americans from Ukraine if Russia were to invade, half a dozen sources tell CNN. The contingency planning is being led by the Pentagon, and for now is only precautionary.

Right now, the Pentagon is planning for a number of different scenarios in the event that an evacuation is necessary, ranging from a smaller evacuation of just nonessential US government employees to a larger one involving a broader swath of American citizens.

Replying to @NatashaBertrand
The administration does not currently see a need for evacuations, the sources stressed —airlines are still operating & land borders are open. The discussions are part of planning in the event the security situation severely deteriorates.

The Biden administration planning another evacuation should terrify everyone, especially the Americans who could potentially need to be evacuated from Ukraine.

Putin has amassed more than 90,000 Russian troops on Ukraine's border. The Ukrainian government has indicated it is also preparing to defend against an invasion.

Senior US defense official tells @foxnews US intelligence sees signs that #Putin plans to invade #Ukraine on multi fronts using 175,000 troops in early 2022. The US govt is taking Putin’s signaling seriously. They are not treating it as a bluff.

President Joe Biden spoke with Putin on a video call Tuesday morning. Yesterday, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki previewed the conversation.
"In terms of the focus of the meeting, as was announced when we announced it this weekend, it will, it is an opportunity for the President to underscore, of course, U.S. concerns with Russian military activities on the border with Ukraine, and reaffirm the United States support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine," Psaki said. "It's also an opportunity to discuss a range of topics in the U.S. and Russia relationship, including strategic stability, cyber, and regional issues. But you can certainly expect that our concerns about the military activities on the border will be a prominent part of the discussion."
I see absolutely no potential for this to go horribly wrong as two super powers battle over Dear Feeder.

WW1 was started because some nut shot the Austrian archduke

WW2 was started because some Austrian was pissed that the Jews didn't like his paintings

WW3 will be started over a Florida man who runs a website dedicated to stalking morons on the internet.

Bring it on.
If the infinite universe theory is true then that means there is an infinite number of universes where null starts ww3.

Throw in a guarantee of a Slavic warfu, Joe, and I *might* consider joining up to fight another war that doesn't involve American interests. Anything less is a non-starter.

There won't be a war with US ground forces and it'll be more like Crimea under Obama. We'll give them weapons and when they take over we'll toss them a few sanctions and say "Bad, bad boy!" The US hasn't fought a super power head on since WWII, everything else has been proxy wars (maybe Chinese forces during Korean/Vietnam? Idk), and I assume troop moral is already staggery low with diversity higher, skirts with dicks in the trenches, and flying the rainbow flag before heading into battle for redneck rural Americans to want to join.

The more interesting thing is if China will decide to fuck with Taiwan while Putin fucks with Ukraine.

That would be the move.
What I'd like to know is if Russia is gunning for the whole enchilada, or if they just want to pull a Crimea again and take a little nibble.

Ukraine is big, and if you can take a little bit at a time, it dampens the political impact, and reduces the need for total war, destroying the country they want in their holdings.

The United States best bet would be return in kind with reinforcing advancing a proxy interest in the middle east such as Iran.

lol holy shit. Biden basically shouting to Putin he ain't gonna put up any fight lmao.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foundations_of_Geopolitics read this for an understanding of Russia motivations, its their guiding document. Russia obviously cannot just blitz Ukraine like it is 1941, such overt warfare is likely dead, what they'll do is continously shear off pieces here and there. Russia wants to develop "natural borders" that contour to geographic features rather and their goal is moving the border to the Dnieper River in the near term and perhaps the long term annexation of Ukraine.

I get nuclear second-hand embarrassment whenever someone quotes it seriously.

So the politically Ukraine will likely survive this, and the west has territory to move people affected by this, most likely, and Kiev is under pressure but the Russians taking it would be a LOT of effort?

We speak of "economic sanctions" but how can we really do any damage, it seems like economically Russia has never directly been a factor in the West's daily life, aside form London for some reason?
