Community Munchausen's by Internet (Malingerers, Munchies, Spoonies, etc) - Feigning Illnesses for Attention

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
You missed the AFAB bit meaning born female, identifies as non-binary but because doctors only see a female in front of them they think it will be sooooooo painful and need sooooo many opiates because females are soooooo sensitive and medicine is sooooooo misogynistic
Apparently I had a moment of complete retardation in this thread last night and did not successfully read anything posted.

I stand by my assertion that the trans movement is fundamentally misogynistic though.

There’s almost a codependency that develops in some of these communities,” Feldman says. “Women have told me that they used to spend 12 hours a day online with the poser. And then you have to ask not only why the poser did it, but why the supporter had such a buy-in.” In these cases, the con artist–victim relationship can be complicated by the pleasures of generosity. Delashmit lied to and mistreated her victims. But she also gave them an opportunity to be their best selves—useful, helpful, and caring. When women talk about being abused by Delashmit, they often sound like the victims of romance scammers. After such a symbiotic relationship, after giving and baring so much, the humiliation is doubly powerful.

This excerpt, quoting Feldman struck me. ITT our reaction to the people who fall for what these people say is basically just, "what a moron," or "if they're that stupid, they deserve to lose the money they donate." I never really thought about the idea that some of these "supporters" are doing it because they get something out of it too. That high when the munchie profusely thanks all their supporters, or singles them out directly in comments. Look at me and how much empathy I have for people. Even worse, I wonder how many of the "oh I have that too" commenter are lying as well.
Just my thoughts at 4am

There's nothing almost about it. These communities are pure codependent circle Jerks. The supporters are virtue signalling and lapping up all their good boy points for being a supportive ally and the permanently dying worst cases ever get the validation of their super real ailments getting them loads of lovely attention.
And nobody can ever get better or you'll lose all your online friends.

That's really complicated. Munchies know they are faking. People with intense health related anxiety generally believe. All it takes is one or two fakers to make up a bunch of bullshit about how MCAS triggers anxiety and diarrhea/constipation on tik tok, and the bullshit spirals out from there. Now instead of people becoming aware of the life/brain/gut connection you've got a lot of people who believe they have an illness. By confirming their anxiety that something was seriously wrong it gives them some measure of comfort. They start taking benedryl, which is very similar to vistaril (given for anxiety) and their symptoms improve. So it keeps spreading. Even though they might have gotten the same relief from reducing life stress or consistently changing their diet.

There was some guy on reddit recently that didn't know men got boners when they dream and thought it was due to MCAS/hEDS/tethered cord. Someone gave them good info, but if they're were a large number of male fakers out there, they wouldn't have - they'd be convinced waking up during the night with a boner is part of a serious neurological dysfunction and, well.

A lot of people genuinely don't realize the reason they feel tired and run down is the amount of work and stress required of us leaves very little time for 3r (rest, recreation, relaxation). Instead looking at the environment as an issue, people think something is wrong with them. You've got a full time job, three kids, and you feel tired all the time? It could be hEDS or POTS.

This is one goldmine of a thread. Look at this one:
Yeah I wonder why doctors would accuse her of drug seeking when she pulls the "I'm allergic to poppy seeds!" card? She want that pure pure. Uncut hydromorphone. Or possibly fentanyl. I have actually heard this MANY times.

It's succubi visiting you in the night to steal your vital essence, duh.

"I'm allergic to all pain meds except for this one that starts with a 'D'. I can't remember the name. Dol-...Dil-...Deluded?"

It's crazy how many patients have a list of allergies as long as my arm. Interesting how infrequently that list includes the big gun synthetic opiates.

I'm still wondering about the drug-seeking patient who came into the ED allergic to everything, including hydromorphone and fentanyl and tramadol.

What the fuck was he even looking for? Like the nurses gonna look over his allergies and run to break the glass on the CS cabinet to unleash the most powerful opioid ever known to mankind.

Maybe he was fishing for Demerol?

Couple of ways to look at that redditor too. They could be drug seeking. They could be a spoony with an exceptionally stupid list of excuses for why "normal" treatments won't work for their common ailment (osteoarthritis). Or they could 100% believe they've got MCAS and the normal reaction they had to opiates was life threatening, no one took it seriously, and their intense anxiety/autism makes it impossible to get through to them.

I've had a strange life and I've met a lot of strange people. I wouldn't dismiss out of hand that redditor was just a really strange person that had difficulty relating and interacting with others.

Edit: There are a whole class of people out there whose existence would be totally segregated from ours without the internet. Community mental health center/Shitty subsidized apartment and possibly a part time job is their entire life.

Just what the doctor ordered: a big shot of tar into the jugular, probably. I do find it pretty amusing that all of them totally think that they're the first person to come up with the idea of pretending to be allergic to everything but the good stuff.

I've actually seen quite a few patients claim Demerol allergy.

I knew a guy who claimed he was allergic to sugar. All sugars. So he couldn't take the tylenol pill because it was sugar-coated.
Oh yeah? Well I'm allergic to ALL macronutrients in ANY and ALL forms!!

nooo my tethered cord dropped all the way down to my penis, it's hospice now for me boys!

Reddit finally caught wind of our BrAvE WaRrIoR hopeful.stripes. MBI put out a pretty good timeline on her AND one of the commenters claims to have been to ED treatment with her. This person had some interesting things to say. Apparently good ol' Hope was severely bulimic and known to be an attention whore.

So this anecdote (from “Urological Oddities” by Wirt Bradley Dakin, copyright 1948 ) has popped up, and I’m not sure if this is a genuine case of historical Munchausen’s syndrome or just a woman who knew she was sick, couldn’t convince her doctors and became stupid in her desperation.

[EDITED TO ADD: Kidney/bladder stones do not necessarily cause symptoms; there are “silent” cases that go entirely unnoticed for years on end and are discovered by accident, often on autopsy after the patient died of unrelated causes. So the woman might have been as shocked as her doctor to learn she actually did have the illness she claimed to have.]
