So uh, how much longer do you think this whole "used cars selling for more than you bought them for" trend is going to last?

Anyone in the industry care to weigh in?
I'm tangential to the industry, but even a sales or auctionfag isn't gonna be able to tell you with any precision. My guess is the trend isn't gonna stop at all for certain vehicles. It really depends on a lot of variables, and in truth the used market has been getting crazier since at least cash for clunkers. Specific vehicles (Toyotas come to mind) basically stopped depreciating years ago, and now they've been appreciating. I think there's an inflationary effect there as well, because the average price of ANY used car has increased greatly. You used to be able to buy an "OK" aging runner for $1500-2000, you can only buy junk for that now. The entry point for a decent, relatively modern compact car has gotten to around 5 grand.

However, there's a lot of variability here as well. The craziest prices all center around dealer networks and financing. That's how the average moron purchases their shitwagon and they are paying the dumb and financially illiterate tax on it. You can still get most cars for a decent (although higher than desirable) price in private party cash sales. It's also still possible to find cash deals from people who aren't penny-stretching assholes with delusions about what their 10 year old, 200k jalopy is worth. Just forget about getting a deal on anything that's trending for a while (like big pickups).

I have a 5 year old vehicle that I have a personal grudge against but which is in good working order, it looks from the estimator like I might be able to just trade it in and walk away with a small profit. Seems too good to be true especially given the grudge I have against this thing but hey maybe someone else is desperate to deal with the drama involved in this particular make/model.

To me, a five year old car is brand fucking new. If it's reliable then drive it, if it's a troublemaker then get rid of it before it breaks again. Some cars insist on throwing parts once or twice a year, it's basically arbitrary and may have something to do with evil spirits (still working on this idea).

Fiscally speaking, it depends what you want to replace it with too. Watch out that the "profit" margin doesn't come up short and fuck you when you're going to buy something else with an even nastier price inflation.

I had to replace the transmission this year when the parts shortage had already started and that was a horror. The replacement has a warranty but I am spooked about what else could go wrong on this thing, it's fond of its alarms and bells and if it had a personality it would be a Jewish hypochondriac neurotic who thinks its having a heart attack when you drive it up a hill.

Since its relevant to anxieties over supply chains etc I'll chime in with this re: dog food and making your own to supplement or cover for shortages -

1. Anyone making the argument that dogs are carnivores because wolves are strict carnivores is retarded. Wolves are primarily carnivorous but absolutely do supplement their diet with shrubs and veggies if they are available. Also dogs are separated by wolves by enough to shrink them down to fucking purse size, does anyone really believe nutritional needs wouldn't change in that time?

2. Not all dog diets should be the same. Try to tailor your dogs meals to what they're doing and what they are. Slight PLing but I have two different breeds of dogs. My large "sled dog" prefers to get carrots, apples, red meat and chicken, long grain rice and bananas when I can get them. Lots of protein and high energy foods because he runs and is active a lot. My rat dog is much more sedentary and prefers just laying around, and has GI problems when he eats certain things. So he mostly gets chicken, rice, beans, peas and apples. And these are things dogs will love to eat, you just have to break them from eating kibble all the time. A lot of people give their dogs fish and tbh I've thought about giving the sled dog go some trout but Im weird about fish bones I don't want to risk them choking on one. Turkey is a seasonal treat for them that they love as well but remember to cook your dogs their own poultry without using salt or herbs. OH and if you can find them cheap in the store, plain boiled eggs can be a good treat for them but don't do it too often because cholesterol etc.

Most commercial kibble is actually horrible for use as the only source of food for dogs. It's loaded with corn and empty calories and fats and not near enough proteins or other vitamins and minerals.
The problem is that dogs who are raised on kibble will sometimes refuse anything else because to them if tastes great and is fattening. If you had a choice between eating your favorite pizza every day for life or eating new things in a balanced diet, and your brain was the size of a walnut, you might make the same type of choice. It doesn't take that long either and once they get accustomed to it they will want the veggies too. My rat dog actually picks out the green beans more than the chicken sometimes.

3. How this ties into global supply issues? Well, it presents a problem for a lot of people because they don't have the option to supplement store bought food. I strongly recommend researching some dog safe fruits and veggies and starting your own mini gardens. For meat you do have to be careful about hunting or trapping for it too, ALWAYS cook it like you would for a human, it sounds dumb but a house dog is going to be just as vulnerable to intestinal parasites and diseases as you would be when eating game.

4. Make use of coconut oil and pumpkin and stock up on it. Dogs can eat both of them in pure form and it will help with digestion, worms, stomach upset and constipation in place of medications. You can bake or cook pumpkin and I think they can even eat the seeds if you cook them soft enough and its good nutritionally as well.
I am late to replying to this but I work in the pet field and have for many years with a slight autistic focus on nutrition. Adding on and slight correcting.

1. Commercial pet food is perfectly adequate for dogs and cats. Check the bags for an AAFCO (American Association of Feed Control Offices) statement. Pet food manufacturers will test their food and compare it to nutrient profiles AAFCO has on file for different life stages. Puppies and kittens will need more nutrients than adults, so a growth or all life stages food is fine for them while maintenance is not (if it says maintenance, that's an adult only food.) Every commercial pet food is going to have an AAFCO label, it's just a matter of finding it on the bag.

2. If you insist on home cooking, enlist the help of a board certified veterinary nutritionist. This is a fairly new field so there's not many but the accreditation board website has a list. Home cooking is doable but if you do it on your own your food is not guaranteed to be nutritionally complete and nutrition profiles will vary wildly from batch to batch. Quite a bit of math goes into diet planning most people don't do.
2a. On that note, don't use recipes off the internet. Any hack can post them and most recipes online are made by people who don't know what the fuck they are doing. I have seen recipes that allow protein substitutions which is the first sign of someone who has no business making diets. A pound of beef is very different from a pound of chicken.

3. Flax and fish are your best omegas. Coconut oil is high in saturated fat and better left as an occasional treat. My cat gets fish oil and has a very pretty coat to show for it.

And lastly be nice to your pet store employees. Been catching lots of flack over shortages. My cat food has been a pain in the ass to get too and I'm lucky my cat will eat anything that isn't nailed down.

Nevermind I take it back just read up a bit to see that @Sailor Kim Jong Moon is a tranny who can't produce breast milk despite the castration and HRT overdosing and was gifted a baby fucktoy to groom and rape by an evil child trafficking ring endorsed by the government called Child Protective Services.
Troons should wear some kind of badge that says TRANS on it to help us identify them. It should be something bright and easy to see, like yellow. I think that would really help to avoid mixups and confusion like this.

For me it's not just cream cheese but cream and cheese. The no garlic stores have garlic back on the shelf now but one was completely out of dairy cream products (whipping cream, half-and-half, almost all sugary coffee creamers) and the cheese aisle was fairly bare with some varieties sold out. Regular milk and fake milk products were fine though. The other store was really slim on the cream end of things and was completely out of the smallest size. That being said it isn't uncommon for stuff like cream and cream cheese to run out around the holidays.

On the Walmart end of odd things, they had exactly zero gallon jugs of water. Completely empty shelf and all varieties gone. Also they're starting to sell pasta in plastic bags instead of paper boxes. There's a paper shortage right?

Wait is this really true? I thought the poster was a legit mother who was poor and needed help and so I was willing to ship supplies to lend a hand. I feel dirty now. Glad they never replied to my message.

You guys were saying we wouldn’t have Christmas presents. I had absolutely no problem finding Christmas presents, except some packages arrived a bit late (which happens every year anyway).

It all depends on what you're giving folks for Christmas. Coal may be up in price but it's not like there's a shortage of it. PS5s, Hexboxes, and Switch OLEDs are a different story.

New consoles and PC tech are always hard to get. This isn’t anything new. The New Nintendo 3DSs had a run on them in like 2012!

In my part of Europe still any shortages besides electronics. But some items have a more painful prices than month ago - e.g. food for my dog get up by 15-20% in all of shops in one month. Thats more than other stuff (in EU inflation is rapidly expanding in all countries, in Eurozone is lesser, but in non-Eurozone members is mostly much higher).

Smells like you have a Nissan with their dreaded CVT. That's the first modern car that comes to mind with high tranny failure rates.
