Going through his feed, I feel like it is a good thing he didn't have any sons. He would make their sole focus not on being the best young men they can be, but on being the best male allies to women they could be. Any man I come across THIS focused on women and being this visible about it is either a predator trying to hide in plain sight, or a future troon. Maybe both.

I'll never understand the sheer amount of butthurt these people display over the Harry Potter franchise. Even leaving aside the fact that JK Rowling has done nothing but express completely mainstream feminist views. Even if she was a TERF caricature who spent her days sending transwomen personalized hate letters, I still would not get it. I was never into Harry Potter, but I do enjoy a few Disney and Marvel (aka also Disney at this point) properties because I am a big stupid dork. Disney is literally an evil megacorporation, and Marvel has a long history of screwing over and underpaying artists. And that sucks! So my thinking (and the thinking of most people I know) is that if you don't want to give them money, then pirate it. Or don't, because there is no ethical consumption under capitalism. Or avoid Disney intellectual property and go on with your life. Or don't, who cares; it's fucking entertainment and we are adults. I can't imagine writing a weepy tweet about it, but these people have been doing it for years.

It's entertainment. "Love visibly"? It's an intellectual property owned by fucking Warner Brothers, get over yourself.

Edit: I do realize that book series like Harry Potter can be very meaningful to people who read them during childhood and got formative experiences from them, etc. But the people doing the whining are adults. Part of being an adult is learning that the world (including the opinions of your favorite author) is more complex than you thought and that it doesn't all revolve around you. Why ruin your own childhood memories by throwing a tantrum about it? Do these people not have any real problems to complain about?

So he was already in his 20's when those Magic Harry movies came out. This isn't just a typical Gen X manchild who refuses to let go of the Nintendo games and Transformers toys he enjoyed as a kid. This isn't a simple autistic guy fixated on niche, but harmless, stuff like model trains. This is a grown man who got so obsessed with a film for young children he had multiple shitty-looking tattoos of the underage cast permanently inscribed on his flesh.

Really not surprised he's a troon now, I'm just surprised he hasn't been busted for child molestation or trying to sneak into the Rowling estate with a pocketful of zip ties and a flask of chloroform yet.

See the first mistake was looking through this like a rational person. In real life, most people will just stop supporting something they don’t like or just keep enjoying what they like and leave it at that.

For whatever reason, people like this choose to go beyond the normal consumer and product relationship; it becomes a parasocial relationship and anything that can threaten this relationship is evil. It’s insane.

That picture with the tampons is weird af. If he’s trying to make it about donating to a women’s shelter, why wouldn’t he just show the pile of products he’s donating (they’re gonna need more than one box after all?), along with a note about how much shelters need this stuff? But it’s more like he wants to make it about him buying tampons (which… so? My grandfather bought pads for my mom and aunts after their mother died. That was in the sixties. This guy ain’t special.)
Seems like everything is (and always has been) performative with this guy. The twitter name change is a prime example of that: he couldn’t just be a good dad who’s proud of his kids, he had to make his whole identity about being a “girl dad”’on twitter. And now that he’s found a new identity to pursue, he forgot all about the kids. It’s like his daughters were only ever props in his online life.
Especially since he would go out of his way to denounce the author of his favorite book series for daring to defend the rights of women and girls (girls like his daughters) to single sex spaces safe from gross coomers.

I suppose that is why these people get so angry when other people don’t renounce Harry Potter as well, because they assume that everyone’s identity works like that? One thing I do find interesting is the extreme soy appearance he had before transitioning. It’s funny that “soyface” got its name from the idea that phytoestrogens cause feminization in men (I think we can safely look back now and say that this idea is false, because transwomen have taught us that no amount of estrogen in any form can actually feminize men) but until now, "men with terminal soyface" and "troons" have been two almost entirely different groups. The soys might support troons, but they didn’t troon out much themselves. Are the tides starting to turn?

I read the first chapter of Gretchen's Felker-Martin's book so you don't have to.


- The writing itself? Surprisingly decent. Not the best, but I would put it at "very good fanfiction" level. Like maybe almost at the level of a professionally author who is anonymously writing a bit of fanfiction on the side for fun and because they don't want to bother having to edit. Pleasantly surprised there, to be honest.

- Theme: I can see why Gretchen was able to get a contract for this. The concept of a protagonist who will turn into a monster if they don't continue to suppress their testosterone is an intriguing one, and if done well it could actually work as a wider metaphor about the anxiety of transitioning and medicalization in general.

- It's not done well. The writing itself is decent but the plot/pacing reads like this person has never written a novel before and hasn't had a decent editor. The concept of the testosterone virus is literally introduced as a long paragraph of info-dumping. This makes me wonder how much effort Tor actually put into editing it and whether it was sold as a concept and not a manuscript.

- The concept of the TERFs is so ridiculous for reasons I don't have time to go into right now. It's a shame because I really do think this could have been a good idea if the writer was not in a cult and coombrained.

- The protagonist sees the evil lesbian TERF bad guy and immediately starts fantasizing about having sex with her, and then declares he is going to kill her (the manuscript ends at this point). I am actually in favor of this. Show the world what you are made of, transwomen. Get it all out there in the open.

- The comment section already shows evidence of heavy moderating lmao
