I am a proponent of the rights of Native American tribes, preservation of their languages, history, and cultures. There is of course no equivalence between supporting indigenous cultures and being an SJW. When it comes to run-of-the-mill sjws and their ilk, their support of Native Americans tends to be characterized by pan-nativism, revisionist history, and almost a glorification/fetishization of Native Americans. Most of all, their activism is unrealistic.
This hat for example, what message is it trying to get across? That modern Americans are guilty for the displacement of Native Americans? Is the land supposed to be reverted to the ancestors of the smattering of survivors of tribes that controlled the lands 100-400+ years ago? They will tell you that Native Americans did not have a concept of land ownership, so then why would the hat refer to the land as being "Native." These SJWs also love to act like all pre-Columbian cultures have tons in common, when it couldn't be further from the truth. Warfaring tribes rountinely would go after their bitter enemies, just like any other society.
Imagine this being your fashion statement.
If he actually cared about native americans, he would be donating to impoverished Lakota reservations or to educating indigenous women in the Andes in useful trades to make a livelihood. Do something realistic that will benefit the Native Americans that are alive right now and struggling. To them, your hat doesn't mean shit when their own community is struggling with alcoholism, suicide, poverty, and violence against women. But nah, instead, he will wear a fugly hat to let everyone know how woke he is.

@AMHOLIO I can't reply but when I looked at Gretchen's work and some of his tweets, I did not end up with what I expected which was "haha let's laugh at the bad writer." Instead I got a sense of sadness that there is some creativity there that is being strangled by the fact he's in a cult. When you are in a cult, you can only make art for other people in that cult, because you are not in touch with wider reality. I like the idea of stuff like a testosterone zombie virus and magical girl body horror, but when it's done by creatives who can't escape their narrow view of the world (and whose editors are clearly too afraid to edit them properly) it ends up predictable and dull.

For the record, Caitlin Kiernan is a horror author I enjoy who is transsexual MtF. Note how her bios don't mention her genderspecialness because she transitioned back in the 90s and apparently she established her career at a time when publishers assumed their readers cared about fiction, not identity.

That makes sense. I saw someone who either had a massive fucking ego or was incredibly insecure, and I'm kinda leaning towards the later. While writing is a hard job and it is understandable to try and boost your ego, I want to see Gretchen put money where her mouth is. I have a sore spot for writers who think they're hot shit, personal gay vendetta of mine.

Perhaps Gretchen is a bright young mind who's got some writing fumbles, so we'll see if it is the case. I'm cynical and bitter, so I rather be proven wrong.

I always feel bad for pretroon era creative writers. At least I discovered a new person to check out, Kiernan seems like she has books up my alley.
