Do you think Jim would reverse the decline of his channel if he switched exclusively to making videos about wrestling? It would at least be something different from his usual fare that's staler than a month-old piece of bread.
No. She has the good sense to mostly stick to streaming that stuff; nobody cares about the wrestling and
Jim Stephanie knows it. And when I say 'wrestling', I mean the cold intros of spandexed fatties awkwardly pretending to body each other in a half empty and for some reason badly-lit gymnasium. It's about as uncomfortable to watch as real-life Quidditch and a fraction as interesting.
It's so infuriating that a person as supposedly self-aware as they are takes no responsibility for her audience being turned off. We all subscribed and watched because there was a theme and comedic conceit to the whole presentation of the channel, this weird but witty, inappropriate but amusing, obnoxious but otherwise cerebral fat man who did everything with a twinkle in the eye and nothing was ever too serious or too hard to talk about. Once a week he'd make a point and he'd spend the rest of it laughing at shitty stuff on Steam and do whatever. That casualness, that sense of intentional unprofessionalism and joviality is what made him endearing, even if you didn't agree with him on games.
That's almost all gone. She still has her critical faculties when it comes to judging games (by which I mean he still has the willpower to admit a game is good), but the whole sense of fun and light heartedness is gone, and Justin's use of slow, banal stock footage against her characterful ranting is just grating. When I tab out I can still hear Jim Sterling, but it's like he's trying go copy himself, trying too hard to mimic his own awkwardness and word salad that used to come far more naturally. And the worst part is I'm fairly certain that will go eventually - pretty sure she hates how she sounds.
One indicator of how far changed she is - people have attacked, insulted and expressed disgust at his proclivities before - he just shrugged it off. Now it's a whole, bitter Jimquisition about transphobia, the irony being she's given her audience a good reason to be transphobic - her trans identity has taken a person an audience formed a connection with for a decade and is turning it into someone unrecognisable.
