I dunno how many people here read "Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus" but one of the more interesting takes in there was that when women are stressed, they seek company, and when men are stressed, they seek alone time. So this sets up a frequent dynamic in relationships where the woman gets worried and starts to cling and the man is like "Yikes, I need time to myself" which freaks the woman out more so she gets even clingier.
