Fat Acceptance Movement / Fat Girlcows

Sure, sure. No obesity epidemic. There has been absolutely no increase in the rate of obesity in the US AT ALL. And being fat is just a natural state of being. Except it hasn't been, ever. Immobility is unnatural.

But what the hell happened 1975-1980? That seems around the time it all started. Best I could find is that HFCS began to be more widely used in just about everything starting in 1975.

Edit to add ref: Obesity rates HFCS

There’s a lot of reason. But personally, I think that is the era we started moving away from Whole Foods. From actual cooked meals. The 1970s and onward we started moving towards prepackaged meals. Microwaved meals. Canned meals. Fast food on the go meals. That is when we stopped making meals with our hands and started heating up meals made by factories. Combine that with entering the computer age in the 1990s and here we are. Calorically dense food produced on assembly lines for easy consumption combined with sedentary lifestyles of the computer age.

Lizzo needs to stop trying to fit into clubwear.

HFCS is a huge contributor IMO. That plus packaged foods, fast food, and more snack foods.. Candy aisles in grocery stores blew up in the 80s as well. That's when "impulse items" like candy bars started being placed by the cash register.

(I don't have a graph, but anecdotally I think the rising cost of child care and necessity of two-incomes for families contributed at least a little. More tired mothers doing the shopping after a day at work, with the kids, promising them candy at the register if they behaved. And families eating fast food more often. Originally McDonald's was a sit-down restaurant for poor people to have a bit of fanciness, as a treat. But as more and more families needed both parents to work, more of them ate fast food just because it was convenient. Not to imply that there was ever a time when no mothers worked. Working class women have always worked. But in the 80s, there were more professional class women as well, who still had to pick up the kids and get the shopping done.)

And then the 80s is when the fat-free craze took off, but many grocery items replaced the fat with sugar to make it palatable. Fat was never the enemy, sugar was.

So yeah, lots of factors. But I think all those factors lead to people eating a lot more sugar.

These cards kill me because you need weigh to dose medication. If you're eyeballing and basing a dose on that, that's near negligence. There is no excuse to mis-dose because of "feelings". And you know any of these people require plenty of long term medication that may not be working because they don't have an accurate weight.
I am not sure how this would work in practice. At my clinic, before you even see the GP, you are weighed, your blood pressure taken, your immunization record reviewed, and any change in your health recorded. Giving this card to the nurse would not work very well. He or she would ask her if she really wants to be part of this practice. Interestingly, not weighting an overweight patient could be seen as abuse by not taking his or her health seriously.

Exactly, weight medically affects way more than just health conditions. Even outside the doctors office, one of the first things they teach you when handling alcohol is that a fat person will handle way more drinks than a skinny person just because there's more blood to intoxicate. If an office was ACTUALLY providing those cards as the tweet claimed, they need to be investigated for medical negligence because even if fat activists wanna think they're as healthy as a skinny person, they still have more blood than one, meaning different immediate medical needs. Mental health is a serious issue, sure, but you won't have mental health if your physical health kills you first.

doctors can be such fatphobic bigots
Taking improperly-measured medication to own the skinnies.

It wasn't just the presence of the HFCS, there was an actual conspiracy behind it as well. Look up "Project 226".
And for the sake of intellectual honesty, here are some historians who are trying to say "Nuh uh": "Researchers challenge claims that sugar industry shifted blame to fat".
Well in Australia that was the period that fast food franchises came and took the cities by storm. Think Burger King and Maccas.
Isn't it called "Hungry Jack's" down there because there was a pre-existing Burger King who already had the copyright? I don't think it's his fault everyone got so fat.

jesus christ this lady is literally the dumbest person alive. the combination of her triangular body, her box head-neck, and her pseudo-smart speaking patterns all come out to make me super annoyed for some reason. she's legit stupid. (btw idk how to archive/insert a video so i just left the url)

Why yes, she is on TikTok, how did we know?

They desire to be skinny to badly they can't even conceive of the idea that somebody might be insecure about it.
They really desire thinness so much that somebody being critical of themselves while thin is just mind blowing to them. Because if they were skinny they feel like they would be perfect. Their egos are so bloated that the only thing keeping them from perfection is their weight - and how dare a skinny girl be critical of something the fatass desires so much.
It's pathetic honestly. I love videos of fats hating on thins. Post more. <3

I actually can understand this fatass for once, believe it or not. There is this trend on TikTok when beautiful/thin/pretty people fish for complements with "i have 10/10 face but acshualy very ugly woe is me" or similar bait. The point is to get attention from less attractive people who will post things like "wat u so pretty, i ugly kill myself :("

Now, call me a SJW, but I think that's kinda scummy, preying on insecurities of teenagers and making them feel awful about themselves only because you need to stroke your ego.

Skinny people can't be insecure, because they have "thin privilege."
Having "thin privilege" means, that you will never in any way struggle with your self esteem.

Something something intersectionality, you can have your woes in other spheres, but you never ever were oppressed for your body, unlike my suffering self, uwu

No matter how pRoBlEmatIc is Jordan Peterson, I do agree with his point, intersectionality is absolutely pointless in its core, because in its essence it simply boils down to one, single person, therefore it’s impossible to be used as a base for whatever policy, change or whatever.

Gorl you could open a movie theater with all that projection.
who wears a chain when they're "working out", lmao- also, wearing a mask while using the cardio machines at a gym is a weird flex that you're not actually working out hard enough to sweat/breathe hard, but okay. its always funny to me when people who claim they go to the gym often/exercise frequently (more than the thins, even!) expose themselves in really subtle ways.

You’d think they’d want to give more visibility to all eating disorders including anorexia nervosa (which also stems from absurdly low self esteem and body image), but nahhh.
Only the BED- I mean recovered anorexics get to talk about being insecure in their body.

They sure do want to give more visibility to anorexia nervosa, but remember: the ultimate root of anorexia is fatphobia, thus the true victims whose voices need to be centered and uplifted aren't the people actually suffering from it, but unaffected fatties whose feelings are hurt being reminded that their bodies are so undesirable that some people are willing to literally starve themselves to death to ensure they never look like them.
