Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

To close out 2021, I would like to take a trip down memory lane. Back towards the end of 2020 a peer-reviewed article from the National Institute of Health on the effectiveness of facemasks was published online. If I recall correctly it was shared on this thread and I decided to bookmark it for possible future use. Well I recently opened the bookmark and as you can see in the link, the powers that be decided to have this article retracted last July. Meanwhile NPR and CNN's "medical analyst" are now saying non-medical cloth masks are ineffective.

Here's to another year in Clown World.

I wonder if it ever occurs to these people that they’re pushing ruining people’s lives over a product that was tested in a completely haphazard way where the pharmaceutical companies would’ve got an approval whether it worked or not. They spent a few months on this and have no clue the long term effects but apparently it’s worth the risk so a few people over their expiration date can last a little longer.
They want the pandemic over, especially now that there are rumors of all-online schooling coming back. The hatred is thrust onto anti-vax for not complying and making the numbers 100 so that we can return to normal. Many of these people are blue, so thrusting blame on Lightfoot or Biden would be sacrilege, even though they control when normalcy happens.

They are also scared of number hikes, but still trust “The Science” TM. No way the vaccines are just, not effective.

The totally not fucked with numbers for the flu cases are just adding justification as “see, that vax is working!!”

“The administration is also discussing whether to stop using the phrase “fully vaccinated’’ and replace it with “up-to-date,” which may make it easier for people to understand that Covid-19 shots are a regular part of life, people familiar with the matter said.

The CDC uses the terminology when referring to other kinds of regular vaccinations that aren’t related to Covid-19.

Until now, health authorities have defined fully vaccinated as getting two doses of the vaccine from either Moderna Inc. or Pfizer Inc. and partner BioNTech SE, or one dose of Johnson & Johnson’s shot.”

Another “conspiracy theory” confirmed courtesy of the Wall Street journal. Fuck big pharma, fuck the politicians, and fuck the people who carry water for them without even getting paid for shilling for them.

Will they ignite a Streisand effect for this one? It's a bit doubftul and for those who are curious, here some archived copies on the Wayback Machine and Archive.ph

But it's uh.

It's not a regular part of life, and the second they try to slide that into the zeitgeist, people are going to drop all support for this. And for the Branch Covidians that are torturing them in the name of wuv-da-science.

I don't feel bad for these fucks. They're the ones that got on the tiger's back and started whipping it like crazy, figuring the idea that they'd ever have to get down was a right wing conspiracy theory. Well, ride's coming to an end assholes, what's your disembark plan?

Early on this year I had to deal with this bullshit. McDonald's was five minutes from my apartment on foot, but what I didn't know was that they weren't allowing walk-ins, since it wasn't advertised anywhere but their Twitter. I just made a mobile order on their app and was confused when I went there to find the doors closed.

I told some employee going in that I was trying to pick up a mobile order, some pajeet manager comes out to complain at me because I'm not in a car or ordering from UberEats. She points out two car parking spots behind me where they give orders to whoever is waiting there, but you have to be in a car. There was no facility for pedestrian pickup whatsoever in the middle of a fucking residential zone.

Eventually she gives me the order anyway while I wait outside and I don't bother going back because what the fuck. I don’t want to use UberEats unless I well and truly have to because a) it costs way more and b) every order is a diceroll because half their couriers speak basic English if you’re lucky, so better pray they don’t get lost again.
People were using cardboard cars last year

There's a really funny story decades ago when a McDonalds in a college town started to close their doors and only open for drive through late at night. Some students did the cardboard car trick, and management wised up then added more restrictions (like rolling wheels etc). In the end they acquired an old wreck and removed the floor, so they could push it while inside. The wreck was parked around the corner from the McDonalds. The car was eventually towed away and McDonalds allowed counter service for take-out

And then, we might see lots of home PCR test kit throw in the trash can or some guys might try their luck to sell used kits on Ebay to see if some pigeons or suckers will buy one. :story:

And speaking of home PCR test kit...
because they were free everyone jumped on it causing a shortage and of course the explosion of case increasing the already present panic. It will a way smarter handling if they did seropositivity/immunity test and those that come back positive gain a covid pass by default. But no let make it never ending drama

Got that nhsbooster text today but no calls from teat and trace. the bullshit part of that will be that the houeshold member who was in direct contact with the plague carrier will hqve to isolate but nobody else has to. Yeah....that makes complete sense!

No way will door to door jabbing work, here. At best there will be agency people contracted to go door to door to bribe, or beg people to get jabbed. The kind of people that will do it will be bored teenagers/students or Karens. The former will lounge about and not go door to door and the latter will be assaulted.

>large portions of the NBA are out with covid
>literally getting to the point were they have to cancel games because whole teams come down with it at once
>almost every player in the league is vaccinated
>NPC NBA fans still giving Kyrie Irving shit for being unvaxxed

I hope he's enjoying this turn of events, and his millions of dollars as well.
I've also been trying to make sense of the US professional leagues having the issues they do with COVID despite mandating everyone get vaccinated or be ostracized via travel restrictions and lost pay.

If I recall, there is only one player in the NHL that hasn't been vaccinated. However, he hasn't caught COVID yet while vaccinated players have caught it to the point 50-plus games have been cancelled with the league announcing:
  • A temporary shutdown over the holidays, and
  • NHL players will not be participating in the 2022 Winter Olympics because making up as many of the postponed games is more of a priority for the league.

In trying to look at this logically, I have a hard time figuring out what the heck is happening. The best I can come up with is that it's some combination of:
  • The vaccination rate being lower than promoted.
  • Players not having proper hygiene or engaging in risky behavior off-ice.
  • Vaccines not being as effective as originally touted.
It's mind-boggling and raises the question, "Why get a shot if it doesn't help?"

By avoiding TV and radio broadcasts, it's easier to avoid the fearmongering.
Agreed. I largely avoid the evening news now unless there's a headline I'm interested in because of the ongoing fearmongering and partisan bias. Doing so is good to keep the stress and anxiety levels down.

Earlier this year, I had a similar experience that I shared in a different thread. I went to pick something up from McDonald's on the way home, saw the long drive-through line, and decided to go inside instead of wasting time/gas waiting in line. As I reached the building, a worker came out to shoo me away and tell me they were drive-through only. It would have been nice if there was a sign or message on their electric marquee making this fact known to people as they pulled in since there was no government-enforced restriction on indoor carry-out when this occurred.
(Edited for clarity)

IME if someone in the house has omicron, everyone else will have it soon even if you try and take precautions to limit direct contact.
