Unpopular opinion but when Lindsay says she's not rich I believe her. Not because I don't believe she doesn't make alot of money, but because she's probably piss poor at managing it. With the amount of money she's gotten over the years you could very likely set up at least one or two side ventures that could keep you afloat if your main source of income goes tits up. Even if it's just something like setting up a franchise store or something. But, lest we forget Lindsay is friends with the likes of everyone's favorite decadent skinwalker Contrapoints, so burning money is likely a common friend group activity

The key difference is Contrapoints actually has talent (a very small amount, enough to make your sets feel less like a discount porno) but I see a common trend with YouTubers, the inability to manage a budget, and copious amounts of alcohol. I'm calling this "The DSP Constant."

According to Lindsay and her defenders, she has been "harassed" for years. Ever since Gamergate, so at least eight years. She even gave a wheezy TED talk about "bad faith" criticisms when she got pushback for her white genocide joke. Why was this "cancelling" the straw that broke the camel's back? Why did she wait NINE MONTHS to quit? As far as I can tell, there's been very little mention of it since the "Mask Off" video. To me, there are two possibilities.

One: she genuinely believes, either consciously or subconsciously, that her lefty critics are right. By her own admission, she gets heaps of scorn from right-wingers, and she just blocks, ignores and dismisses it. Why can't she do that with these woke detractors? Why can't she say to one of her eight employees, "You're now my social media manager, I'm done with it"? Maybe because she wants back in the club. She agrees with these doofuses, so when they call her "bigot", it cuts much deeper than someone calling her "SJW". She keeps searching her name hoping that her station has improved in the wokescold sphere, and it hasn't. And it's driven her insane.

Two: this is all a con. She got a signal boost from her cancelling, but didn't help her book sales. So, she's making a big histrionic show of leaving Youtube, raising her public profile and number of patrons, followed by the glorious return. Even in her farewell screed, she downplays how well her channel is doing, saying it's just "inertia" and "running on fumes." She's hinting that she needs more money. She's begging for support, emotional and financial, and it's working. She got her name into MSM outlets, a wave of twitter sympathy and more subscribers.

I'm leaning more and more toward the second option myself.

Three; She's a known severe Bipolar. With periodic swings into deep "fuck it all" depression and the soothing comfort of alcoholism. She did this a few times while the Nostalgia Chick. I think we haven't seen this deep a swing in awhile. The Raya controversy is just her excuse. The trigger is probably the complete and utter failure of her second book. (Possible loss of book deal?) The increasing pushback for her past treatment of others. And the deep seated knowledge that she aborted the only thing that would ever love her.

She'll snarkily return in a few months when her crazy swings to a new cycle. Assuming she doesn't an Hero herself. She will as usual learn nothing from any of this. Her return will be her calling down a hate mob on some poor delubed beta male. Some things never change.

But of course you can't play the victim and be anti-fragile. If you're anti-fragile, eventually your hardships will make you so strong that you are no longer a victim. Lindsay needs to be the victim because the community she's fostered is full of people who hold victims in the highest regard. Even to her last breath she has to be the victim of something.

I think that you could be onto something there - however, I reckon that it is perfectly possible to present onesself as both a victim and a strong fighter. A suitably smart YouTube personality - basically, one with just a smidgen of understanding of human behaviour - will quickly realise that the best persona to adopt is of the victim who never gives up. Think of Onision's eternal loser who also happens to be irresistible to girls and the meanest hand-to-hand fighter badass ever. Think of Lindsay's 'I #FightLikeAGirl but am also vulnerable and sensitive' approach. That combo is the best way to garner support, from thirsties especially but from others as well. Think of it as an appeal to The Eternal Underdog in us all.

I decided to read her essay in more detail, and I have a few more additional thoughts to add:

• That line about cutting off the ear was the only legitimate good writing I saw. The rest is run-on inconsistent past/present tense garbage that plagues modern writing.

• Its clear to me that St. Martins or Nebula said something that booty blasted you, because you mention it without actually mentioning it.
