A little legal news ahead of the new year.
USA CoVax Mandate Legal News Roundup -- New Year's Eve Edition
NYC
An unexpected roadblock to NYC's batshit crazy mandate has appeared -- Amazon. It turns out that the Bezos Borg has quietly dragged its feet on complying with federal and now local mandates, and is still refusing to issue a corporate mandate. (Archive)
Unsurprisingly, Amazon's getting sued over this. (Archive) The outcome is still TBD.
Boston
Cops and firefighters in Boston are suing to block the new mayor's new mandate, which eliminated the option for weekly testing in lieu of getting the vaccine that previously existed. (Archive)
Missouri
Some good news for those worried about the schoolkids caught up in the ongoing clownery -- Missouri just killed the mask mandate in schools for the Columbia Public School district. (Archive) Sounds like this is only one part of a broader campaign to eliminate mask mandates for kids in the state.

According to Amazon spokesman Richard Rocha, more than 7,000 of its New York City employees — nearly a third of the local workforce — have yet to get their first dose of the vaccine or haven’t shared their vaccine status. Either way, they’ll have until Jan. 4 to do so.
Amazon has consistently encouraged its employees across the nation to get vaccines against the virus, but has fallen short of instituting a universal mandate across its facilities. It remains one of Staten Island’s largest employers to not institute its own mandate.
Unsurprisingly, Amazon's getting sued over this. (Archive) The outcome is still TBD.
STATEN ISLAND, NY -- New York Attorney General Letitia James furthered her fight against Amazon, filing a motion on Tuesday seeking emergency relief to address the health and safety concerns of workers in the e-commerce giant’s Staten Island warehouse.
Calling for a court-appointed monitor to implement coronavirus (COVID-19) safety precautions at the Bloomfield fulfillment center, plus reinstatement of Chris Smalls, an employee who was reportedly fired after staging a protest over safety concerns there in March of 2020, the James said her latest injunction is “in response to Amazon’s rollback of its already inadequate public health measures, even as a new variant threatens to cause higher rates of transmission, illness and death.”

The Boston Firefighters Local 718, Boston Police Superior Officers Federation and Boston Police Detectives Benevolent Society announced Thursday that they had filed a temporary restraining order to stop implementation of the vaccine requirement.
Both unions alluded to the staff shortages at the agencies they represent. The Firefighters Local 718 argued that the policy "will, if not enjoined, significantly reduce understaffed public safety agencies that are necessary to address public health response to the ongoing pandemic" and "overburden exhausted work forces."

Schmitt filed the lawsuit back in August in response to the district's mask mandate for students and staff. His lawsuit challenged the legality of mask mandates for Missouri school districts, and he urged parents to report any school mandates to a "centralized email."
In an email sent to KOMU 8 News Schmitt's office confirmed Wednesday's filing of a request for dismissal comes after the CPS school board's meeting decision to end the mandate starting on Jan. 4.
