People who think Dune is simply "the hero's journey" almost certainly have not read the first book and unquestionably have not read the Frank Herbert sequels.

It's the equivalent of people who say Captain Kirk was a "loose cannon" or think "War and Peace" was a glorification of war. Pop culture osmotic level takes.

No but seriously her review is so low effort. “Lol why is world building?” I mean I get if the story doesn’t capture you but her stupid questions of ‘why is this important’ is like asking a movie about the Gulf War ‘why are you talking about oil so much?’ Because it is integral to what is happening and going to happen you sped. And yeah the way the Lynch movie just railroads and skims over the plot points and tries to condense two or three movies worth of story into quick footnotes sucks but that isn’t really a problem with Dune as a whole just that adaptation.

To these "deep" reviewers/cultural commentators a Marvel or Disney Star Wars movie has better stories, characters, and world building than fucking Dune. They are no better than the normies that eat up everything Hollywood shits on a plate for them. They are worse, actually. Because while a normie will eat anything up, they will like it more if the movie throughs in some dumb anti-white, anti-capitalism, pro-black, pro-LGBT shit and "deconstructs" things.

Her observations are barely surface level and always have been. Someone on here referred to her as the female Mr. Plinkett which is an insult to him. Trying to dissect an easy target, like Dune has been for most movie reviewers, shows how shallow and pandering she is and is as deep as a loogey on the pavement.

It probably is way easier in our ADHD world when a flick is just like ‘the setting is basically present day but WIZARDS/VAMPIRES/SUPER HEROES’ and people don’t have to invest time in wondering why there’s a giant worm guy floating in his farts. I know even I have this problem in many movies of like decades before my time where the pacing is slower and not everything is whizz bang SPECIAL EFFECTS.

Automation taking jobs from humans IS awesome, as long as you're not the human losing that job. The only alternative to that is to halt increasing economic productivity and innovation at some arbitrary point, which will cause plenty of problems and human suffering as well.

There is no solution to that question that ends with everyone being happy and no one being left out or displaced.
