Because people wanted adult/porn games separate from the porn and porncows thread in the Multimedia subforum and I wasn't sure if it warranted a thread in PG, I decided to post the thread here. Talk about anything happening in the realm of adult games like drama, the games themselves, the community, and the like.
A few examples include:
Ren'Py
Ren'Py is a free game engine that allows you to make any kind of Visual Novels. It was initially released in 2004, is being continuously updated as of the time of writing, and has been used to create thousands of visual novels already, one of which being Doki-Doki Literature Club.
In the right hands, it's possible to make a good (or at least decent) visual novel, like Snoot Game and the aforementioned Doki Doki Literature Club.
On the other hand, as the engine is available for literally anybody to use, it leaves the doors wide open for people to use the engine as an opportunity to write their own "stories" to jerk off to and share them with the world. Tag Ren'Py on sites like itch.io and you'll find literally hundreds of games of varying quality, some of them free to download and others charging money for them.

Quality that is pretty low more often than not and sometimes not even worth the free download.

Project Helius
In a case of recent and ongoing drama, a team going by the name of Project Helius is getting into some hot water. They're quite successful, having over 25k patrons on their Patreon and likely making over $100,000. They made a game in the past called Fallen Doll and are developing its sequel titled Fallen Doll: Operation Lovecraft (previously titled Paralogue), described as "a Cthulhu mythos inspired erotic rogue-lite tactical game with VR/Desktop support."

Provided you have a good computer, the quality of the models are actually as advertised and the actual NSFW stuff you can get up to are supposedly pretty good. The sequel does have degeneracy involved in which you can have the women have sex with or be raped by aliens, most of which are pretty much animals aka bestiality (one of which is just a dog and there's plans for a monster that's just a horse), but it does have a large following despite this. What gotten the fans pissed off?
The fact that Project Helius are adding gacha and F2P mechanics in its multiplayer aka Harem Mode, despite saying that they wouldn't, and locking some of their animations and "controversial content" behind it.

A few months later:

A summary of the Harem Mode mechanics:

Needless to say, there was backlash on their Discord. The devs/mods responded to this by banning people for criticizing them and even banned some of their long-time supporters for it. It's also worth mentioning that most of the developers are asian.

This in turn, lead to the server turning into something of a hugbox and led to many people jumping ship over to sites like F95zone to talk shit about the devs, which is where I got the Discord screenshots from.

Breeding Season
An oldie but a goodie piece of drama from 2016. This guy does a pretty decent job at explaining it:

The core of a Ren'Py game is its script, wherein the developer defines the sequence in which it presents text, images, and sounds to the player. Most lines of this "code" correspond to a single line of spoken dialogue or exposition, so its structure is much more akin to a movie script than to actual program code. Apart from the main bulk of text, the game script also defines following common objects:
While the entirety of the game content is up to the individual developer, the engine comes with a lot of built-in comfort features, like customizable main menu, saving and loading the game, rollback to previous game screens, fast-forwarding the text the player had already read, etc. A completed script can be then compiled into a finished game that runs on all supported target platforms.
- Characters consists of their name, a color (e.g. how their name is displayed in the dialogue window), and a number of sprites showing them in different emotional states. Said sprites can be dynamically assigned different screen positions and transition animations.
- Scenes are backdrops against which character interaction takes place. These include both generic backgrounds and unique "event CGs". Like character sprites, scenes come with several predefined transition animations.
- Labels serve as anchors in the script, allowing the narration to jump directly to specific scenes.
- Menus are the basic unit of interactivity in Ren'Py, facilitating story branching where the player selects a dialogue tree response or an action from a predefined list of options and the game reacts to their choice (usually by jumping to a different label).
- Music and sounds can be played over specific scenes and events. It is even possible to implement fully-voiced dialogue.

I think one of the most notable cases of this is when Sandler, one of the developers for Breeding Season, killed the game because he thought he project lead was shit, in order to make his own version.

At the height of its popularity, the game was making upwards of $40k a month on Patreon, and mostly consisted of tranny incest horse porn. Because of the hilariously lenient contract Sandler was under meant that he owned partial rights to every drawing he made, and so him leaving = nuking the project.![]()
Later in 2016, Sandler started Cloud Meadow, his own version of the exact same game, and as far as I can remember, it's still the same tranny incest horse porn that rakes in thousands of dollars a month because western coomers have no pattern recognition and don't understand why there's a conflict of interest when you give money to a gamedev to not finish their game.
