TGWTG Nostalgia Chick / Lindsay Ellis / TheDudette - aka Hotdogs in face girl

Lindsay's Patreon-for-nothing reached a high of 12174 paypigs on December 31, 2021. At the start of November she had a low of 8490 but was at about 8683 when she metaphorically threw her wine glass at the wall of the Internet. As she had removed the $10/mo tier in October and assuming 10% of the 8.5k were hangovers from the earlier tiers, for one glorious month she made around (849*10)+(11325*2)=31140 or $28649 after 8% Patreon fees. To specifically not produce content. 3491 additional guilt-wracked paypigs threw coin at her because she was sad and people were mean. But no sponsorship money, just paypigs and Adsense.

Of course, the problem with such a dramatic proclamation is that it's a one-time-only sort of deal. And as of today, January 4th, she's already back down to 10877 for a loss of 1297 patrons. The normal pattern of Patreon supporters drops off at the start of every month, but usually a few hundred at most, so at least some people are smart enough to not want to pay her to drink sulkily.

It's still one hell of a cushion to do nothing, but 37% of her new guiltpigs have already cut off the money after less than a month. Assuming she'll be back once her meds stabilize or she gets bored, she's lost a lot of credibility as a professional content creator (but gained professional victim points so uh, congrats?). Maybe she sold a few more books but not enough to make up for the indignity. She's still listed as a signed creator on Standard's website. In the end, the Martyrdom of St. Lindsay as a story had as little legs as her books when it came to public attention.
It is ASTOUNDING that this dumb bitch still wants to get into "traditional media" with that kind of dough rolling in. If any author or NY Times film critic could trade places with her and have that kind of guaranteed income they'd literally murder each other to do so.

I guess "the grass is always greener" applies? But as we've already discussed, people like her are incapable of true joy, so even the wine soaked Epcott trips must lose their luster after a while.

She's like Spoony if Spoony was a white woman.

She can throw temper tantrums online and use it as a way to gain sympathy, something that Spoony could never (and should never) get away with.

Status is the answer. In the eyes of people like Lindsay, legacy media has a prestige and sophistication that newer media and internet shit will never have. The fact that this prestigious image was cultivated by that same legacy media is neither here nor there; she wants to be part of it, so she can look down on the peons, flaunt her new status over people like Doug, and escape from her roots as a mid-western ball of dough.

Unless she's in the dozen or so people who actually make a good living doing that shit, she'd seriously have to downgrade her lifestyle when getting paid peanuts.

That sounds like it. Nothing to do with regretting wanting kids. She has coveted mainstream media since day one. And gosh, if she could just get enough clout on the internet then she'll be invited to the big table and be just like Emma Watson or Diablo Cody. But decades have passed and she's nearly 40 and amounted to being a Youtuber that nitpicks Disney movies and other media meant for children. Her books are a flop and while she could keep going on she knows she's reached her peak. That's why her in her goodbye message she mentions that quitting Youtube was "inevitable" because feminist criticism about soulless Hollywood schlop can only go so far.

People think Doug Walker is based for ignoring all the criticism and controversy about him and Channel Awesome but he got fed up being the Nostalgia Critic like 10 years ago and had to come crawling back because he's such a talentless hack that he couldn't succeed doing anything else. He hates his job and he's stuck there unless he decides to go back to college or go work at a warehouse. He'll have a job so long as Disney pumps out shit and it puts food on the table but, like Lindsay, he'll never have the status he desires and never be a 'real' media star.

The Raya shit was also a wakeup call that the social justice monster she helped create will just as easily turn on her because she's white. She can't stop being white so oh shit, now what. She's white and also isn't working paycheck to paycheck at McDonald's so that's automatically two strikes for the woke crowd, she's practically the CEO of Coca-Cola pumping pollution into the water table of brown communities.

However, Lindsay is still an addict refusing to give up her addiction. So instead of quitting Twitter, she quits Youtube. She goes out with just enough "poor me" to get sycophants to rush in and pat her ass and pad her bank account, but they're going to lose ground as more people cancel their Patreon subscriptions to somebody who has ceased to make any content. She still wants to have that same circle of woke friends even though that's the very shit that caused so much harassment, the chickens have come home to roost, etc. Normally I would assume she'd attempt a writing career, but since she's already done that to no success I would think she's going to take a 6-12 month break and then boldly return before the Patreon money starts to really dry up. Her goodbye message acknowledged cancel culture but since she refused to actually name names or post receipts, she's not interested in burning any bridges so at the very least she wants to eventually return.

okay, but remember that time she pissed off some big name omegaverse writer who tried to sue Lindsay because she made a video about her? Could it be that the publisher told Lindsay to stfu and stop dragging popular writers because they don't wanna be associated with that kind of drama?
Just a thought, I dunno how that shit works

Here’s the other thing: Doug may be like Lindsay and stuck in this YouTube thing, but he’s content where he is now, and when he tries something different and it goes belly up, he just rolls with the punches. Lindsay meanwhile can only seem to do it if she can use the time to throw a temper tantrum and pity party to go along with her pseudo college lecture.

I mean, if you've seen shit like the wall, mad max, that fucking disney channel halloween movie episode, you'd know demo reel (doug's passion project) ain't dead- he's just forced it on people under the guise of nostalgia critic, and judging from brief stream clips he seems pretty chill and happy. I'm sure he wishes he could've been more but he's out there doin his thing and seems to genuinely enjoy it for the most part even if it's not exactly what he wanted.

Imagine having DEMO REEL be your passion project.

That’s what I mean: Doug is just doing his thing, sometimes going out of the true formula, and he keeps going despite the major misses getting lots of criticism and and vultures circling saying that THIS is going to be the thing that drives him off the Internet for good. Meanwhile, Lindsay seems to have a seething resentment for the way people like Doug Walker do things, as if trying to entertain people with movie reviews is a cardinal sin.

This is the part I can't figure out. Why would she want to be "friends" with a group of people who have proven to be resentful, envious opportunists just waiting for their chance to literally drive Ellis to professional ruin and suicide?

Even if you're a monster yourself, there seems to be no upside whatsoever to associating with other monsters on a personal level.

Because she can’t picture herself being friends with those she considers beneath her socially, morally, or intellectually.

It's probably because the quickness of the woke crowd turning on her, something something leopards to eat MY face something something. For all the work she's put in, for all the monetary success she's achieved, what's her legacy going to be? What lasting impact will she have when she's no longer au courant, or (worse) has been cancelled for being an obsolete white woman with mayo ghoul blood in her veins? Videos that people no longer watch, books nobody reads... and worse, only her Nostalgia Chick (sorry, "Nostalgic Woman") content having any kind of hold on people simply as... nostalgia for an earlier era of the internet, fittingly enough.

I think that's also a factor in this thread's obsession with her abortion/potential to have more kids. Having a child may have been her one chance to form a meaningful, non-transactional relationship with someone who wouldn't throw her under the bus for half a dozen Twitter likes, and she flushed it down the sink.
I guess "the grass is always greener" applies? But as we've already discussed, people like her are incapable of true joy, so even the wine soaked Epcott trips must lose their luster after a while.
Pretty much. Lindsay is a living parable about the hedonic treadmill: she gave up everything for success as part of BreadTube, discarding all the people who got her there, only to find that it didn't actually make her happy. Instead, she's trapped in Freddy de Boer's "Planet of Cops," where she and everyone she knows is a detective for the Department of Problematics, and never, ever off duty. I'd drink myself blind too.

I think this is what makes her the most unlikable. She ultimately is driven by her own narcism that she refused to see the snakes that were gathering around her ready to bite. She thought herself bulletproof when in reality her sense of grandeur was way out of line. Many people from 'the diet nazis' tried to warn her that was ahead of her, but she ignored/attacked those that didn't stand in the same lane in terms of status. Status is what ultimately what is fucking her at the end of the day.

Who killed Ellis' career, and credibility was in the end Lindsay Ellis herself. She can drink all the wine, and alcohol that she likes. People saw her for what she is, and are dancing for her fall. There's no picking up for that unless she goes full-blown scorched earth on her 'allies', and leaves everything in the open.
