'No Stupid Questions' (NSQ) Internet & Technology Edition

I may make a thread asking the same in more words but anyone know a good way to acquire crypto anonymously? Eg fiat to crypto

There are crypto ATMs I can visit that I think should work as long as I have a burner phone which I will check out soon but I think it's worth asking in case others have experience. I hear the ATM rates are typically absurd as well.
I'm game for any level of convoluted bullshit, as long as at the end of the day when I spend the crypto no one knows that it's me.

Do you want to be anonymous when you buy the crypto, or when you spend the crypto?

For the former, yes, ATMs might be the best way. There's also in-person sales and transfers (which is what people often did before exchanges were a thing), but then the other person sees your face and there's a good chance they're trying to be just as shady as you are.

For the latter, consider using a "privacy coin" such as Monero. It might not be as easy to acquire as BTC but once you have BTC you can exchange it for XMR (Monero) at many exchanges. Monero has inherent tech which makes it more difficult to determine what people are involved in a transaction, though don't ask me how as I've never taken the time to understand it. If this is for buying drugs or other contraband online, really your bigger problem is having a box full of drugs or whatever with your address on it going through the postal system than the crypto transfer.

We might be able to give you some better answers if you give us a better idea of what you're trying to do here.

To address the "if this is for shady stuff" point, it isn't. I just don't like all the Know-Your-Customer laws and obviously using a personal credit card will tie the purchase to me.
On a personal level I also want to just explore doing things "right."

To answer the rest
  • Do you want to be anonymous when you buy the crypto, or when you spendthe crypto?
    • When I spend it. However, I don't want the purchase to be easily tied to me either. Someone seeing my face is fine.
  • I'm ok with getting any crypto as long as it meets the above criteria, but yeah I'd then like to transfer it to XMR for the actual future purchase.
  • I'm mostly exploring anonymous purchases as this would allow me to be more anonymous when using other services.
    • I also want to give null money but enjoy keeping this account pretty anonymous

On the note of shady real world exchanges, are those sites with ratings reputable for such purchases or is there a decent chance to get scammed? eg LocalBitcoins.com

edit - It seems some of the "local coin" sites may have been bought and merged and are less usable than when I previously explored them. https://localcryptos.com/

I'm swimming in Windows 7 keys from all the junk I've collected over the years, and Windows 10 won't recognize any of 'em, even ones from a boxed retail copy. Picky bugger.
That used to work fine. Maybe it only works with Win11 now...

edit: Microsoft always had control over what license keys they accepted, obviously, and they wanted everyone on Win10 so OEM/OA keys worked on newly built systems even if that was something that never worked in the past. Now they push for Windows 11 instead so they might have shut down one thing in favor of the other. It wouldn't surprise me if that Win7Pro key worked on a Win11Pro install.

If you have good hardware and/or a lot of patience you can also just mine it yourself. XMR can even be mined over Tor.

I'm a bigger dumbass than I thought. Your last sentence gave me an epiphany: all the Win7 keys I had been using were Win7 Pro. The version of 10 I installed was Win10 Home. I dug around for a Win7 Home key and boom, it worked. Fuckin hell.

Why not install W10Pro then? Has some more options to neuter some of the built-in telemetry.

None of the archive (md, li, etc.) websites work when I try to visit them using Opera, but they work with Chrome. What am I doing wrong?
Just a guess, but: is your browser set to use a third-party DNS-over-HTTPS service? The guy who runs that site is a super-autist who has some ongoing feud with Cloudflare DNS and probably others too. This caused a lot of mysterious breakages when Firefox started defaulting to use DoH.

What will happen if I disable it, though? Will I get hacked?
DoH gives you more privacy by preventing eavesdroppers from reading or tampering with your DNS lookups. How much of a threat that ever was in the first place, I'm not entirely sure.
At any rate, you don't have to disable it entirely. I use Quad9's:
They seem to be the best independent provider out there.

How come?
Opera is owned by the Chinese now and has apparently become CCP spyware to some degree.

What seriously? I thought it was one of the last privacy-friendly browser left. Gah.
Yes indeed, since 2016.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opera_(company)

Really, your only alternatives if you want a privacy-friendly browser for general use are Firefox or Ungoogled Chromium, with a full set of privacy-promoting extensions installed. Or Tor, but that's a different story.

Lol I didn't get the memo.
I'm too retarded to unGoogle Chromium and if I started using Tor I'd get arrested tomorrow so I switched to Firefox. Thanks for the infos.
If you're serious and want to go down the privacy rabbit hole then check out the link below. The whole site is a great resource.

tl;dr Firefox is the best modern browser for privacy but you need to mess with the settings to get it there

Anyone know how to download instagram videos?
Any time you need to download video or audio from somewhere, try yt-dlp first. It'll work with just about anything you can imagine.

It's a CLI tool and it has so many options that it can be kind of overwhelming, but try just yt-dlp "https://url-here" first and most of the time that's all you need.

Stupid Question: What was the font Vinny used for the old Vinesauce logo?
