"Frankly, I only hear outright claims of abuse from highly dramatic young women in their teens and 20s, and from unhappy middle-aged, middle-class white women who read a lot of pop psych because they're restless, dissatisfied, and miserable. And mostly, their claims have less to do with what their parents actually did than how those women feel about it in retrospect, after an expert has told them they were abused."
OK, seriously, thank you for putting this phenomenon into words. Actually severely abused kids (who, PL, I have some professional experience working with) downplay their abuse and don't cut off their parents/families as adults. They're far more forgiving over all, often more forgiving than they should be. White women with CPTSD diagnoses from idiot white women therapists who have probably also diagnosed themselves with CPTSD did not suffer from severe abuse, or anything any sane, not terminally online or self-help-ified person would describe as abuse. Your grandma called you fat once and your parents were too busy with work and Real Life Shit to tend to your every need? Too bad, so sad, get in fucking line.
