Star Wars Griefing Thread (SPOILERS) - Safety off

So basically Disney mocks Boba Fatt like they do with every other Lucas created character? Do they pay him royalties for using his characters or what? Otherwise I don't get this downright vindictive strategy.

Half shitting on old star wars per normal, half the actor is 60 years old ( We're talking Die Hard 5 Bruce Willis here) Also half Morrison making himself unfirable by probably make it a requirement they use his face so he gets paid actor rates instead of voice rates. Also half no one related to the project understanding what makes Boba cool.

No one knows for certain, but very likely Lucas is getting money for them using Boba.

I feel insulted just having wasted bandwidth sailing the high seas for this garbage so i can't imagine how it feels for the cretins who actually paid for it. Three episodes in and the best part of the show is the end-credits theme - Is it really that hard to wear a fucking helmet, growl out one word sentences and shoot people. Our two main leads are hardened mercenaries -every episode should be about them taking a job for money where Man-booba and Asian Milf get double-crossed, while trying to double-cross one another, and it all ends in a John Woo teahouse shootout. And then for the season finale you get CGI Lee Van Cleef to show up as the corrupt town sheriff who robs them blind and provides the plot-hook for season 2.
So can we get to the part where Ming Na infiltrates the Hutt's home base dressed in a bikini please?

When will you people learn that free is too high of a price.

This whole episode was made to prop up a fucking comic book character from a godawful comic that was exclusively made to pander to twitter brats and reddit trustafarians while earning some of that sweet ESG money because its lead characters are all lesbians.
Star Wars Theory doesn’t think that they propped up Shadow the Chewbacca enough.
”So tonight’s episode was by far my least favourite. It was slow, with some scenes of epicness, but even those with Black Krrsantan was too short and honestly not true to his character. He would have broken Boba’s back, as well as ripped the heads off the Gamorreans and the Power Ranger biker gang.”

It also seems like someone forgot to tell Jon Favreau that Boba Fett and Shadow the Chewbacca already know each other.
“Take it from an ex-bounty hunter, don’t work for skugholes. It’s not worth it”

I think it is partially that Disney would rather get 100% of nothing than 80% of everything; Iger and his creatures tended to prefer complete control over all IP. It's actually why they gunned so hard for Fox and why they kept bugging Sony over Spiderman. I'd definitely would expect Lucas to ask for some amount of royalty get paid, even if it was pretty small. The guy knows his toys and business.

But some of it I suspect is Kathy's innate incompetence and despising of the works the people she fetched coffee for. She knows she isn't as good as George at managing a ship; it's demonstrable in how often she fires directors and wastes money. But she hates that and hates the man who said "Hey Kathleen? Could you get some coffee for us? I'm in the middle of trying to get this talking puppet idea just right, and trying to talk to Frank Oz. He's being a stubborn one he is."

Jesus christ its Boba. Take a fucking axe to his dialogue you fucking monsters. He should be laconic, not some quipster.

"No hard feelings its just business" -> "Its just Business"; let the wookie win carry the meaning with its expressions.
"Here is your prisoner. I'll release him back to you in exchange for renouncing your claims to Jabba's legacy on Tattooine - > "Renounce your claims to what was Jabbas on this world, and I'll release the prisoner." Make it clear Boba has the upper hand. No need to AT-ST! AT-ST! Tattooine every 4 seconds.
"Take it from an ex-bounty hunter, don’t work for skugholes. It’s not worth it” - > "Don't work for skugholes." Wookie should know what you're on about.
"You know damn well who it is" -> "You know who it is". Its more menacing, and less Whedon.

This is accurate. Disney plays the long game and wants total control over everything.
The fact the Disney caved to Sony, and is going back to the well, shows they're fairly desperate to start putting some better numbers on the board.

Remember back when they were playing fuck-fuck games with royalties for the authors who were smarter & better at negotiating than Cuck Whinedig? If they hadn't been called out publicly, they were going to try to starve the authors until they signed away their rights.

Title(years after the Battle of Yavin)Comments
Galaxy of Fear series (0-1ABY)Sort of just an honorary mention, holy shit I forgot about these. This was 12 books over 2 years that was Lucasfilm Bantam books trying to ride the Goosebump's enigma. I barely remember them, I assume they are drivel, but man, look at that limited edition holographic cover! Clearly not in audiobook.
1642030497218.png
The Bounty Hunter Wars Trilogy
(0-4ABY)
Don't care about the Bounty Hunters, didn't read.
"Tales of" Short Story Collections
(0-~18 ABY)
Not in audio format, probably wouldn't of listened to them anyways, they tend to be minor details.
The Truce at Bakura(4ABY)Abridged, pretty unremarkable
The Jedi Prince Series(5ABY)Another honorary mention. Earliest young readers series. Definitely some of the first EU material I read. Even as I child I thought they were stupid. Has an even dumber idea for how Vader stopped Han's baster bolts on Bespin than Stakepole's. His glove was INDESTRUCTIBLE! Also there is a Leia look alike droid with eye lasers, and Luke's first Jedi ward that gets yeeted out of exsistence.

And yes they left this shit as canon.
Stackpole's X-Wing Book 1-4(6.5-7ABY)Abridged, Significant for Corran Horn but I think the stories are actually kind of bad.
Allston's X-Wing Book 5-7(7ABY)Abridged, Wraith Squadron is pretty minor in the EU but I think Allston is a better writer and his books are much more interesting. Kinda wish they weren't abridged.
The Courship of Princess Leia (8 ABY)Abridged, Great story despite the Abridgement, lays the groundwork for future characters.
Tatooine Ghost (8 ABY)Not Bantam, Abridged, Mediocre. Leia and Han have an adventure in PT references on Tatooine.
Thrawn Trilogy (9 ABY)Unabridged, The Gold Standard, I don't think I need to say much other than I wish Thrawn's empire was a bigger and longer threat.
Stackpole's X-Wing 8
Isard's Revenge (9 ABY)
Abridged, A wrap up to Stackpole's stories, mediocre
Dark Empire Comic Series (10 ABY)Dogshit
Jedi Academy Trilogy (11 ABY)Unabridged(seems to be a Library of Congress copy which is funny) a really disappointing series. Not as bad as it is made out to be, but it's bad. It wastes what should of been one of the biggest pillars of the EU, Luke reforging of the Jedi Order. Jedi Academy is a B pushing C plot in this trilogy.
I, Jedi (11 ABY)Abridged, Stackpole putting his OC into the Jedi Academy Trilogy only he's smarter and better than everyone. Then saves his wife in a probably very abridging butchered conclusion. Bad. Look, here is a picture of Stackpole cosplaying as Horn for the TCG
1642032353072.png

Don't tell me he isn't a Gary Stu.
Callista Trilogy (12 ABY)Abridged. First book is ok, we got one more shitty superweapons to go before they mostly drop the trope. Has some fun stuff with well know alien races getting flash hypnotized into being Stormtroopers. Luke is Forced into Love with a Old Order Jedi whose significance is completely unappreciated by the writers. Mid series the higher ups decide Mara is going to be his Waifu and she gets yeeted into the "Only Referenced" Rim. Darksaber is kind of shoehorned in the middle, one of the dumbest stories to date.
Allston's X-Wing 9
Starfighters of Adumar (12 ABY)
Abridged. Insignificant self contained story, but it's fun and I down right laughed out loud.
The Crystal Star ( 14 ABY)Abridged. Pretty forgettable but wasn't bad. First time we really get the Solo twins has characters.
The Black Fleet Crisis Trilogy (16 ABY)Abridged. Real stupid. Not significant. Bail. Stupid aliens have imperial ships and Republic is worried even though they just made the biggest offensive fleet ever(which they will shortly mothball/lose)
The New Rebellion (17 ABY)Abridged. Another pretty forgettable one off story. A previously unestablished failure from the Luke's academy puts bombs in commercial products and kills everyone on a planet with them.
Corellian Trilogy (18 ABY)Abridged. Not great, I've mostly forgotten it, but we do get the Solo Kids being active in the plot.
Hand of Thrawn Duology (19 ABY)Unabridged. A bloated mess that it feels like they forced a Tales of anthology into. Significant to Luke and Mara's relationship. It's definitely a listen to, but if you tuning out, maybe switch to an Abridged version.
Survivor's Quest (22 ABY)Not Bantam, abridged. Set up for a PT era book by Zahn. It's ok, but the abridging is really bad.

So what's my overall feeling of this era of the EU?

It's not great. It's hard to condemn them for not being more ambitious though, in hindsight a mass media project like this is an obvious idea, but it was a much more novel thing at this point. They were wildly ambitious with it, and they created possibly one of the biggest continuous science fiction stories(40k may be larger at this point) ever with it. It has a lot of problems though. Doing research for this post, I was shocked. These trilogies are not released successively. A lot of them are all kinda coming out overlapping each other. The Corellian Trilogy(18 ABY) was fully released before The Black Fleet Crisis(16 ABY) or Darksaber (12 ABY). It's all a lot of bad to mediocre stories that make references to events and maybe characters in others, but no impact. Really, only the Thrawn Trilogy creates any lasting characters. The deconstruction of the Empire has no satisfying moments. Thrawn is defeated by his own hubris after a minor victory from our heroes. Coruscant is just handed over. The Imperial Remnant is just over there in the center of the galaxy being all menacing and warlordy and not doing anything until Zahn cleans it up and finishes off the War with a truce. A lot of characters are forced to be in stories they don't belong. A lot of stories, I believe, are severely hampered by having to make space for these unnecessary stories.

What I'm getting at here is, I could of been sold on a rewrite of this era. There is a LOT here that could of been improved. The New Republic is just sort of given the Galaxy and the Empire has a few minor factions rabble rousing. Luke's efforts to find new Force Sensitives, start a new Jedi Academy and found a New Order of Jedi is very much in the background, when I think it easily could be a 12 book series on it's own. Of course, Disney never would of been the one to do it, and likely no one would of pulled it off successfully. The idea being, we don't tear all this down. We kinda treat it like George treated the EU. We are going to keep the characters and major events, but fill in a lot of the space around them. The new stuff is surely going to clash with the old, but it won't erase it... completely. The old event happened in a way even if new characters or event would of undoubtedly changed how they went, even if significantly.

I am entertained by The Book of Boba Fett, but the show is majorly flawed.

Everything is of a lower quality than The Mandolorian. Especially the writing and direction. It's a sizable step-down.

I think the issues come down to the split timeline doesn't work. It's getting in the way of both storylines. Hollywood really needs to stop making this same mistake. Some shows have done flashbacks really well. Most have not. The first season of Westworld was fantastic, yet the end result was that it inspired less talented writers to try and replicate it when they lacked the talent. Then it turns out the writers of WW couldn't even figure out how they pulled it off and made the same mistakes as everyone else. Trying to have mysteries, reveals, different timelines. Where it gets in the way of telling a story.

What is the main storyline? The future or the past? I assume the present, yet the flashbacks are setting it up. So we have a story that isn't established. So it's spending all of its time slowly establishing itself. Waiting for the flashbacks to set it up. So the present can't really start telling its story until this is done.

It's another now common bad writing issues TV shows have. The present-day storyline isn't a story. It is a premise. It is just slowly revealing the premise to the characters and audience. Three episodes in and how long has Boba been the crime boss? A couple of days? weeks? Months? Who knows. Yet he's just walking around going, "what is going on, I'm a crime boss." Everyone is going. "Ummm no you're not." The story is Boba trying to figure out why he isn't a crime boss. Which is setting up the premise of the show. Which needs to be established before it can tell a story.

Just another show where the story is characters going, "what is going on" and then as a viewer you're waiting for the writer to decide to tell you. That isn't how you write a story or have a mystery. It's with holding. Not telling a story with a mystery. There is a difference. The "Story" drive of Boba wondering what is going on, is so slow.

The flashbacks have a story for the character. Heading to a destination. Yet we know the end of that. He wants to take control of the crime syndicates. He gets his suit of armour back. Get's his mojo back. Kills Bib Fortuna, Takes Jabba's throne. Only to then find out it means nothing and he's then walking around going, "respect my authority and also what is going on? I'm a crime boss yet have no power and don't know anything that is going on."

Knowing the end of the flashbacks is undermining it. The rest of that story is now also meaningless to tell us. It is no longer a story, but just stuff happening to get to the end destination. Which we know and isn't very interesting.

This would have worked better if it was linear. You get Boba killing Bib. End of a story arc. Taking control of the crime syndicate. A big moment. To then be subverted with it being hollow and it's now starting a new story to gain that power.

This style of writing just constrains storytelling and the creative process. Once again, it's about revealing a premise. Not telling a story from a premise. Where it's all just set up for the next season. Where usually the writers then make this same mistake again.

That looks so out of place, I hate it. I really hate it.

Also why do they always create new shit in established places. Getting caught up on this thread it appears they are changing the cities/towns of Tatooine and their sizes. Use things we have specifically heard of, where is Anchorhead? Show that. Where is Fort Tuskin?

Is that big city supposed the be Bestine?
Its supposed to be Mos Espa, Anakin's hometown from the prequels which looks nothing like it, yet people are trying to form a headcanon of claiming Bib Fortuna made it bigger and better despite that making zero sense since the mayor seems to have more pull and according to Disney he did an awful job as Jabba's replacement, which they now have to explain off as being due to "connections".
So basically Disney mocks Boba Fatt like they do with every other Lucas created character? Do they pay him royalties for using his characters or what? Otherwise I don't get this downright vindictive strategy.
What @Ghostse said, and yeah George probably still gets a cut of the royalties, which is why they keep putting more focus on their OCs or have them overshadow the originals to see if they can phase them out like they tried to do with the DisSequels. Or why they want to keep the KOTOR remake in "Legends" and make their own faggier version later on.
I enjoyed this episode a lot more. I know people are bitching about how out of his depth boba is, but I like how he's gradually getting a better understanding of the situation and most importantly, more dudes on his payroll. If he doesn't start kicking ass and taking names in the next one your arguments will be perfectly valid however.

Now granted his flunkies are lot more colorful then Id like, but I do think its cool how they have a 40k kind of look to em. And before people say that doesnt fit star wars, I rather liked how it was implemented in the old republic MMO and the comic character Grand moff trachta

I also like how they addressed all the complaints here, about how Bib was able to maintain his power for so long against the huts. He had a series of interlocked alliances set up and the huts were too greedy to seriously pursue an expensive conflict. Now it looks like Boba has to aggressively clean house.
Honestly these defense are like the equivalent of someone who barely watched TNG saying the new Picard show is a great series simply because of all the memberberries and making Picard more like a generic scifi hero. Boba is such a pussy that he can't get anything done by himself and is completely clueless in regards to running a criminal syndicate. Why even take up the spot? Why quit being a bounty hunter? Why be such a nice guy all of a sudden? "B-But I was living with tuksen raiders for 5 years! These noble cherokee stand-ins changed me for the better!" If I wanted to watch a Boba Fett cosplayer act like a good guy, I'd go watch Mandalorian instead, which was another show I was hoping would be about bounty hunting, but instead became mcguffins and sidequests like everything else Filoni does. Best thing for Favreau to do at this point is just stop taking advice from the wolfaboo.

Also 40k didn't invent cybernetics and gas masks.
Star Wars Theory doesn’t think that they propped up Shadow the Chewbacca enough.
The fucker was glorified out the wazoo. What else could that hairy faggot do? Kill Boba Fett?

Holy fuck that's what he actually wants. These people just want to see the Disney OCs triumph over and kill the originals or repeat some unrelated capeshit stuff like Bane vs Batman, because they seem to have it in their heads that Boba should be just like Batman and become Tatooine's resident superhero. So much for SWT and his claims of wanting the legacy characters to be honored.
It also seems like someone forgot to tell Jon Favreau that Boba Fett and Shadow the Chewbacca already know each other.

“Take it from an ex-bounty hunter, don’t work for skugholes. It’s not worth it”
Probably just another convenient hiccup since Filoni always likes to simply skim things without reading them in full, much like how he did with Bad Batch and those Kanan comics, Grievous' backstory, or TCW and its adaptation of the Zygerrian comics by Dark Horse. The man only knows visuals, like George but somehow more superficial and less creative.

Anyway, Morrison confirms the Slave I namechange and RK Outpost throws shade at Doomcock's bullshit.

You know, they could’ve done the “Punished Boba” thing and that would’ve been a fine show. Have him lose his leg like in the EU, ditch the Tuskens, bring in Dengar and focus the story on a man who has lost everything. Boba would be crippled, scarred, has gaps in his memories and a ruined career.

What I’m saying is ape MGSV.

Wookieepedo is already in damage control over the Slave I namechange (again), trying to diffuse tension in discord DMs and claiming that Morrison is not a reliable source of info, yet despite this they'll believe the words of a toy catalogue editor on twitter with a fetish for Porgs.

I can already see the bullshit explanations of false hope that Doomcock will give to keep his followers hooked on Disney. I see either two scenarios for the cope.
1642039823368.png
1: "Friends, it has come to my attention that they have officially chosen to rename the Slave I to the "Firespray", and I know this inspires dread and anger within you all, but do not worry. For this is not a mockery or a political sanctification of the past, but a symbolic gesture representing the coming freedom of the franchise from the slavery of Kathleen Kennedy. So rejoice my friends for now for salvation is on the horizon for Star Wars!"

2: "My dearest viewers, I have heard your woes and your grievances towards the recent revelation that Boba Fett's ship will now be renamed "The Firespray" to appease the mindless SJWs who seek to erase the past, and I grieve with you all. But take to heart that this is not the death knell, but merely a ruse! My sources, who shall remain anonymous for their protection (although always be ready for the unexpected), have relayed to me that things are not what they appear. Throwing Kennedy and her kin a few scraps from the table to make them believe that their existence still matters is all a ploy to lull them into a false sense of security before unleashing the wrathful hand of justice upon them. So please be patient and stay faithful for soon order will be restored as Favreau and Dave Filoni take their rightful place at the throne of Lucasfilm."

Good heavens but that would mean they would have to make Boba very naughty and that would make him a bad role model! Now we can't have that can we?

This is unbelievably retarded
Thank God I'm not ever going to watch this

@The Gangster Computer @Ghostse
So do we know how the royalties thing works? I mean Disney did buy Lucasfilm for $4 billion plus making George the biggest shareholder of the company. What counts as the stuff he personally created?
Also half Morrison making himself unfirable by probably make it a requirement they use his face so he gets paid actor rates
That kind of reminds me of the MCU where the main actors inexplicably don't wear their masks/helmets when they should because their egos prevent them from not being seen by the audience and the studio paid too much damn money to put them in the movie.

I respect Karl Urban for not being a little bitch and wearing the Judge Dredd helmet the whole time in the Dredd movie.

The "George still owning rights" is only speculation, at least as far as I have seen. One of those theories spazzes use to justify why Disney is acting retarded, while it could simply be they're just idiots, Disney and the theorists. Instead of there being a monetary motivation on character usage, it could simply be throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

If someone has the contract of the LFL sale to Disney, feel free to prove me wrong.

You know what, how does one troll Doomcuck? He’s so fucking gullible and so ridiculous now. I want to get him to do something like ridiculous like “Kathleen Kennedy is imprisoned deep in the bowels of Lucasfilm as Jon Favreau wages a shadow war against the SJWs throughout the hallways of Disney HQ”.

“Kathleen Kennedy will be publicly executed and Filoni will bring Luke Skywalker into the real world and he will wipe out the SJWs”

Just what a fucking retard. I’m ashamed I ever watched his shit.

These grifting idiots are unbelievably stupid. Doomcock is goofy and gets a lot of stuff wrong, but he's still popular. Why go out of your way to make an enemy of him and further divide the supposedly anti-SJW community when you could all be friends and present a united front? It's the same with that fat fuck AZ declaring a jihad against EVS over the most petty bullshit imaginable.

So now that they renamed slave 1 what next are they going to do? Remember when that turkish ngo group had a problem with the design of Jabba's palace over that one lego set from a few years back. Are they going to appease them next?

Oh dear

"Dave Faloni and Jon Faverou is secretly our guys and is trying to wage an internal war at lucasfilm to take down Kathleen Kenedy, I swear. I have hidden insider info... What? do you want proof? Uhhhhhhhhhh I swear, I swear it's real you just gotta believe me!"

If I remember right, some redditors once figured out that Doomcock was taking his info from popular 4chan threads and so trolled him by making up fake leaks with pics then posting it on 4chan. Doomcock later posted the faked leak as fact and some made video responses calling him out on it. This was years ago though but you could give it a shot by making up some bullshit on 4chan and making the thread gain a lot of attention.

Just write something about how Kathleen Kennedy got into an argument with Jon Favreau over wanting to replace Black Chewbacca with a strong feminist bounty hunter or Dr. Aphra, but Filoni and Jon fought tooth and nail to keep Black Chewbacca instead.

Doomcock also has a discord apparently. Trying to mingle there and become one of his "trusted" followers and then feed him false info might work too.

“Dave Filoni is not a furry nor does he have Rosario Dawson chained up Leia-style in a full bodypaint Slave Ahsoka cosplay. She does not feed him grapes while calling him “Striker Wolf” and most definitely does not call him “sky guy” while putting a lightsaber up somewhere hilarious. Dave is in fact on our side and isn’t part of the rot.”

Jesus Christ, I duck out of the Star Wars franchise for a few months, and I come back to Boba Fett getting into autistic shenanigans with Tusken Raiders, refusing to torture people, fawning over a pet Rancor, and recruiting a hipster biker gang riding what looks like literal Fisher Price toys.

I didn't think that there was a way for this franchise to get worse, but it seems like "television budget" is the new scalpel Disney is using to deface what little of it is left.

Some of you might've noticed that I've been uncharacteristically absent from these forums as of late, reducing my presence to mere lurker...but believe me, I've been watching. I've seen it all: the shitty SW Hotel, Boba's Obese Escapades over the Tatooine Sands, Quantic Dream's upcoming trainwreck, all of it.

And I've been meaning to stop by and comment on it, but the honest truth is that coming off Crucible, I started having massive Star Wars burnout, and needed to step away to focus on other hobbies (not least of which included a first-time binge-read of all of X-Men...which yes, contrary to what my avatar may suggest, is something I have zero familiarity with).

But break's over, my capeshit escapades are done, and it looks like the franchise is entering newer, shittier territory...and I'll be here to chronicle all of it. So consider this my comeback, motherfuckers.

P.S. Yes, I will be continuing my coverage of Legacy (since I took a break from that as well), so expect a mega shitpost in the next few days.
