The LGBTQ+ community, as well as the Israeli government and media, are to blame for the rapid spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19, Imam of al-Aqsa Mosque Issam Amira has claimed, according to N12.

The Palestinian Islamic scholar and preacher made the controversial statements in a sermon during Friday prayers at the Islamic holy site in Jerusalem.

According to Amira, the Omicron variant"did not spread until the government and media announced its existence."

Amira went on to claim that the government and media that "brought the variant" are the same that "allow and encourage homosexuality.”

This is not the first time that the Imam has made controversial and problematic comments.

In 2020, Amira was arrested by Israel Police and received a six-month ban from al-Aqsa Mosque for praising the Muslim who murdered and beheaded French teacher Samuel Paty for using illustrations of the prophet Mohammed.

Right-wing Zionist NGO Im Tirzu reportedly responded to Amira's controversial comments, calling for the "dangerous person who should sit behind bars" to be arrested by Israel Police as soon as possible.

"His incitement poses a danger to the LGBTQ+ community and to the Jewish people," the NGO said.

About the scholar comment, I don't think that homossexuality is the only reason for spreading of the COVID, there are many other factors involved. I think the most thing which spreads covid is the fact that people don't use mask and dont get vaccinatted. I know that the whole topic of vaccination is very polemic, but with respect to all other people's opinion, I do believe in science and vaccination, and no muslim should doubt science. I see many muslims, unfortunatelly, are ignorant and against science.

This is simply stupid, because Islam is the religion which more values science, by the way, Islam and the Holy Quran are full of scientifical facts and statements which are one of the reasons many non muslims entered islam. Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon Him, instructed us muslims to seek knowledge and seek medical treatment. Many modern medicine procedures were first created by muslim doctors. In example, Mohammad Ibn-Zakaria Al-Razi (known to the Western world as Razes) in the 10th century was the first physician who used general inhalation for anesthesia in surgeries.

Whenever the church would persecute and kill scientists, islam called people to seek knowledge and wisdom. Islam is a religion of wisdom. Be aware that not every muslim understands or follows Islam correctly, in the same way many christians do not follow or understand correctly christianity.

And about covering such topics in my game, i.e, homossexuality, as a muslim, I see homossexuality as wrong, by the way, all other religions see it as sinful. However, as a Brazilian, I learned that we must respect people's freedom of choice, even if I disagree. Respecting someone does not mean that we agree with everything that person does. But as a muslim I believe that Allah - God is the one who will judge each person. I am not here to say that so and so is bad, so and so is good. Allah, the one who created every person is the one who will judge each person. With that being said, I don't see my game as a fit to talk about such matters. And me, as a muslim, would never make a game about this topic, since, for me, I see this is wrong.

Also, with that being said, DISAGREEING with homossexuality does not mean I am homophobic or promoting hate of speech against them. I have no obligation on agreeing with them, but yes, as a civilizied person, I need to respect ANYONE, regardless his/her lifestyle.
