Mega Rad Gun Thread

If you guys were going to get a gun in .308, what would you choose?

I've considered the SCAR 17, MR762, SIG 716, and Springfield M1A series ( less so now though, as I've read alot of people having reliability issues with them)
Plans are to shoot a bit further than I currently do awith my ar15 at the range and possibly deer hunting in the future
Personally, I'd get myself a nice bolty boi for flavor (I don't have any bolt-action rifles). Or if I were a richer man, an FAL (not a Century Arms clone).

I guess build my own with random shit or get a Springfield Saint Victor chambered in that round.

Or go old school and try to buy a semi auto BAR or M14.

That's something I'd normally assume is rare enough to cost an arm, a leg, a left nut, and both breasts, but I have seen that Browning does make a sporterized version, the BAR Mark 3.

They only vaguely look like the Nazi-thumpers of yore we all know and love, but AFAIK the mechanical skeleton is still there.

Edit: and since you're our resident Calicuck, Joker, it'd be perfect for you, haw haw haw.

Thanks for the suggestions. I had thought about FALs but I don't know near enough about them to make an informed purchase. Something inside of me is pulling for an M1A for some reason.

As far as bolt vs. Semi-auto I hadn't really considered it. What are the main advantages of going for a bolt action over semi-auto? From what I've read its minor increases in accuracy and simplicity of the action. Anything else, and any recommendations?

Bolts going to be cheaper for the same or better accuracy as the guns you listed, and you'll be able to put the difference in price into a better scope. If I had an unlimited budget I'd go with the SCAR for versatility, but its not worth it if your goal is just to shoot accurately long range.

Newsom keeps on cucking cuckservatives and gun owners in California.

Calguns was filled with threads on how to convert pre ban 30 round mags to 10 rounds with positive enthusiasm with rivets rather than just buy the 10 rounders from magpul and store the 30 for later use. Or arguments over whether or not some featureless grip violates the DOJ law when the CA DOJ hasn't prosecuted anyone yet.

Still the state of 2A rights groups is pathetic in the state.

I love living in a place where a registry is illegal. Sic semper tyrannis Newsom. Why don't you do something about the illegals, or real crime?

308 is a great round, very flexible, as for what you want, you know better than us, first of all laws, than your budget, you seem like you want an M1, so look into them. Personally, while i have a maybe boner for DAKKA carbines, the SOCOM is kinda not great for most users. Look into a match (imho) for most. FAL/G3/CETME always based (assuming made right PTR does good work)

Also lot of options for single shot, or bolt. So the round has a lot of offerings too. While I am a collector and into mil surp, SCARs are pretty fucking nice weapon systems, esp if you want to do tactical shit I'd like a SCAR over an AR10/180.

If you're looking into high speed stuff, there's a few guys here who can help.

I didn't get much in my last review, but I'm still thinking I need to finish my AUG build but that's more time than cost at this point. I'm lazy and currently sipping Jefferson (ocean) and pressing some 7.62x25 vs trying to work on some retard euro space gun that's probably smarter than me.

Apparently Washington wants to outdo California and New York lol.

Plus the GOPs in all of these states are useless.

FALs are great rifles, can't go wrong with "right hand of democracy". There are FAL para setups with collapsable stocks, but they weren't and aren't cheap. It's a great and reliable semi gun.

There are also assloads of semi-auto 308 FUD guns. The mags are low cap special ones to the model. I don't remember models, usually FUDs die off, their collections end up in a shop wholesale and younger kids look at them hunting guns and balk. Reality is, most of them are fucking stupid accurate and you can literally get them sometimes for few hundred bucks if you don't mind bullshit designs and carvings of ducks and shit.

Didn't even know about the PTR, thaks for the info. I've got some thinking to do.

Right arm of the free world, not democracy.

Beware of PTR. When they can do something right, it's great. When they fuck up, it is very well documented online the hassle of getting them to honor warranty work. There was a big scandal a couple years ago over them refusing to do warranty work on their MP5s that they fucked up.

I've got some interesting news. Front Sight training is screwing over people who were interested in taking their classes by cancelling any classes they had taken and wanting to charge them 150 dollars a month, but according to them, that's okay! If you want to transfer your membership you just have to pay a 1k USD transfer fee!

I'll post the email that was sent out. It's hilarious.

That's... not funny. That sounds like wire fraud!

So the big scandal online i looked at for 5 minutes was them and their mp5 issue with a can. Looks like in the end they owned up to it, granted it is still kinda shitty. Anything else? I couldn't find anything specific to the 91 series. Seems like a lot of happy customers feeding it cheap Tula.

Thank you.

Lots of their QC issues seem to have popped up after their move to South Carolina in 2014, trigger group problems involving light strikes and feeding issues are the common issues if you do get a lemon. It's said that you can expect to send it back to them about 3 times before a problem is fixed and it's after they swap the grip assembly.

the 91 series
the H&K roller delay requires careful tuning for the ammunition in use. with a suppressor and 9mm, there's 4-5 different locking shoulder options, and selecting the wrong one can lead to issues. i haven't had hands on a PTR MP5 clone, their very old JLD rifles were pretty good and other than some hiccups early on with some "GI" receivers, they've been alright. certainly better than the Special Weapons rifles i've encountered and had to fix here or there.

i wonder if the issue is purely with a suppressed rifle, if the right locking shoulder was selected?

light strikes for a semi-auto trigger pack are usually when someone has converted a trigger pack and not re-timed the hammer or if they are using semi-auto trigger packs with the full-auto hammer and mixing parts. the MP5 has some different parts with the G3, and parts like the rebound lever, sear spring, sear, ejector lever, and a few others are not interchangeable.

I see, thank you for you the information. I like to make informed decisions when spending money so I appreciate the full story.
