I think Greg objected because of financial reasons. They're definitely upper middle class, but I don't think Greg wants to have to pay for Jazz going to Harvard and all the expenses, and on top of that, some expensive apartment and allowance so Jeanette can make sure Jazz dilates every day for four years (at minimum. Maybe I'm so horrified because of what I know now, but goddamn. I can't believe how everyone ignored all these obvious signs, and instead found this inspiring. Poor Jazz. Nothing stops Greg from hiring Sander to do marketing for his company. As most companies are run by boomers, they know shit about digital marketing and strategies, so having your own kid doing all that work could be an easy job for Sander to gain experience and sharpen his skills.

Except, all Sander knows to do is to do tiktok dances and, I don't know for sure what is that Greg does, but I doubt the people he works with would be happy to do a dance wearing rainbow shirts or inviting drag queens to do a photoshoot.

I would say that assumption is probably correct but I also can’t help but think that maybe this would be a good thing.

I mean, what’s the point of continuing what sounds like a horrifically painful ritual for several times a day when the only use for the amhole is sex and he has no sex drive? He already knows how painful it is to dialate so I can’t imagine sex would feel any better, and if he did find a partner then anal still wouldn’t be pleasurable due to his stunted puberty but it would probably hurt a hell of a lot less (this is a guess, it could still hurt a ton just based on its proximity to the amhole).

They can't know unless Jazz told them. If he had an involuntary commitment after he turned 18 there's a court record but colleges don't usually check those, especially not for an undergrad in gender studies or whatever. He hasn't been involuntarily committed as an adult (yet) and I think if he had a voluntary we would know.

If he did have an involuntary, it would prevent him from buying a gun, and if he ever tried to apply for a security clearance it'd show up (I doubt he's going to be working at DARPA or the CIA). But it wouldn't stop him from getting a gender studies degree.

In the latest episode the father actually told the mother he thinks she should take a step back and let Jazz try to be more independent while at Harvard. I'm fairly new to this whole show, so IDK if it's normal for him to speak up like that or if he usually keeps quiet, but I was surprised he said anything.

I did a recap of the first episode where greg and jeannette decided to tell jazz "no", and it was when jazz wanted to do something that would be good for him (moving 15 minutes away, presumably getting a job).

something you notice about narcissistic parents is that they copy healthy parenting but only in circumstances where it is not in the child's best interests. So they won't tell jazz "no" when he asks for the impossible- to become female- but will tell him "no" when it comes to a legal adult wanting to move out of their parents home. Its really fucked up. This cycle of punishing jazz whenever he does something to foster independence & rewarding him whenever he does something that keeps him dependent is part of why jazz is so shitty.

I personally think that he may be most concerned with getting all his kids out of the house. He may have only stayed with her until the kids are on their own. Or he might want to move somewhere that isn't so large. Either way, the kids all came home for covid so it is probably driving him insane to have to deal with the bullshit of 4 extra adults and jeannette juuust when he was looking forward to some quiet. Jazz is like 21, that is a long time to be patient for your kid to move out, even when they have extra challenges.

speaking of which- I had a thought this morning. Jazz claims someone interacted with the amhole (sexually). At some point between seasons. Also at some point between seasons jazz got more mentally ill and started to get really fat. And jazz no longer talks about falling in love or believing that he will become sexual if he falls in love with the right person. I think he thought he was in love with someone, they poked the amhole (with a finger probably) and jazz felt nothing. No sexual feelings. Maybe just pain. It may have become clear that sexuality will never really manifest. All his plans for his future (which includes having a husband, kids) are ruined. I don't know how this couldn't be the case unless jazz lied about being penetrated. That experience must be really confusing and horrifying for someone who got lied to their entire childhood about what adulthood as a trans woman would entail. It isn't like jazz can exactly call out his mom about this, either. His mom has removed the possibility of most non-family support systems. Does jazz have a single friend? even noelle seems to have fucked off. The primary way that people figure out what the fuck is wrong with them is to either talk about it or write about it. those processes help people organize their thoughts and reflect. I doubt that he could write anywhere that is truly private, and his mom has been supportive of jazz turning down therapy in the past. He will figure stuff out some day but not soon under these circumstances. So he still says he is pansexual or w/e, but all of the talk about dating has been replaced this season with talk of weight loss. There is time in a day for both those things. TLC isn't opposed to fatties searching for love on their programs. I think the dude knows that he is staring down a very lonely future.
