Articles & Happenings is the third attempt at a news board on the Kiwi Farms. It is a cursed place. Every moderator who has been assigned here has resigned within a year. During 2016, the political crossfire was so bad it spread to different boards and culminated in me banning American news discussion entirely for several months. It has been deleted in its entirety twice. There is no actual discussion here, it's people posting garbage. It leans much further right than the rest of the site and doesn't particularly conduct discussion because dissenting opinions are dogpiled by a thousand memelords posting shit they read on /pol/ without any critical analysis.

The only rules that can be enforced are empirical ones with boolean violation answers. New threads must cite a real source directly and must use the headline of the article as a thread title without any editorializing. Articles must be archived in some way and must link to the original article. Replies that are one word or a reaction images are automatic one-month bans from the board.

I'm creating this now because it seems like this place is here to stay and is one of the largest areas of the entire site. I might as well throw in bare minimum effort to improve it. I don't even try to find mods for here because they will quit, without exception. I've added new prefixes ("Business" and "Crime") just now.

The decision is odd. If there were too many Biden-related articles being posted outside of the megathread, why not just start merging them again? HK-47 isn't the only guy who can do that. The megathread fostered some pretty good discourse but it's pretty much impossible to have that in A&N's format. Since I can get why the jannies might be opposed to having a non-article thread here, maybe it would be better to make a replacement thread over in Deep Thoughts?

The best way to get rid of a bad policy is to make sure it gets enforced. They'll get tired of it when 90% of A&H is threads about the same thing with two groups calling each other faggots for hundred of pages each.

I agree, and if it was simply that the old thread was too big and unwieldy that would be fine. However I suspect that some jannies don't want General Politics threads, especially ones slanted a certain way.

I really liked that thread. It was a great mix of experts and armchair experts and extremists who had pretty informative and civilised debate. It moved so fast it was more like chat, but a chat you could catch up on after working all day or w/e.

Even if it's no longer serving it's "original purpose" who cares if dozens are participating and hundreds are reading it? Clearly a chunk of the community (and some posters I really respect) value it.

Something like "Great Powers General 2022" or just geopolitics general or something might be good because in fairness everything from us domestic politics to global economy to European energy policy and everything in between was going on. It really wasn't a Biden thread so much as 90% of the regulars took a dim view of him
