Damn. At this stage I wonder if they're going to give serious consideration to running Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. She technically turns 35 in 2024, so...
tbh that sounds like a pretty good option
looks good for the hardcore, literally nobody will care if she loses, she already tipped she jobs for the party with the Iron Dome shit, then she can go retire to consulting or something

Trump never led in one poll by more than 3 % in both runs, in any well conducted poll for that matter.
There are a lot of seats that need to be taken and the Trumpian Populists only came into existence very recently. It takes time to build an empire... the good news is that the Democrats are creating a bit of a power vacuum.

The problem is twofold.

1. You need to cut out the establishment GOP to take over the Senate. So no McConnell and Thune. Any other establishment leaders would also need to be taken out, but those two are the major ones.

McConnnell's honestly on deaths door. Look at those hands! It's why he is grooming Thune to suceed him.
Thune is a bit more of a question. He bitched about Trump's takeover being successful and threatened to quit, which means nothing in North Dakota because you can find a replacement easy. Now, he seems emboldened.

Other establishmentarians, like Rubio and to a lesser extent Cruz, will follow where the tide takes them and absorb Trumpian populism. They're like sponges: no spine and ready to absorb the popular stance.

2. The second problem is that this will take years to do, and it's not a really good year for Republicans to make gains. The main focus states are Georgia (where Walker is looking pretty good), Wisconsin (which Johnson will win easy), Nevada ( who the fuck knows, but Laxalt is polling good), Pennsylvania (oh God the giga clusterfuck), Arizona (Mark Kelly is dead), New Hampshire maybe, and Maryland if Hogan runs (yuck). That's still only +5 seats to the Republicans net for a really optimistic scenerio. For the real juicy stuff, wait til 2024, where Dems have to defend Wisconsin, West Virginia, Ohio, and Montana, including some of the previous states.

For now, look at Alabama with Mo Brooks, maybe JD Vance in Ohio, and whoevers taking out Roy Blunt in Missouri as the beginning of the Senate RINOcaust.

That SOB comment was not dementia and it was not by accident, it was perfectly staged to make a mentally rotting old fool look tough and edgy after that pathetic failure of a press conference last week. It's pathetic that everyone is making a big deal about it.
The problem with this theory, is that I don't believe they could or would want to rely on Biden saying something at the right time, even if it was on script. At most they left his mic on, knowing he would have old man anger. But I very much could believe everyone is incompetent and it just happened because Biden is cranky with having to talk to the press so often.

It is worth noting, one of the states with a retiring senator, and the only Democrat one, is in Vermont. Now all the pundits are labeling it as a safe Democrat state... and normally I'd agree. But the only poll to tentatively check shows a 3 point lead for the Republican frontrunner.

So at worst Vermont is a seat they have to actually spend money to keep. Fucking -Vermont-.

If the Senate stays RINO, as long as the House shows the people the MAGA stuff being blockaded it will help in '24 to definitely give Trump more firepower at his rallies to let him and MAGA take over the party, bye bye Mitch. Kick Romney out (who would likely not seek reelection), maybe make Cruz sweat a bit, and fight for Sinema's AZ seat. Trump running will really help downballot.

She would get obliterated.
That's kinda the point though.
iirc wasn't there chatter that the dems were so not-cool with her that there was talk of just obliterating her district?
but yeah she's a good jobber to put up in 2024
there's no reasonable expectation that she'll win, but it'll look sympathetic down the line, she can go do whatever payoff bullshit, maybe some state level shit or (my preferred idea) she runs a politics-themed bar "The Capitol", but whatever it smooths over a few different things at once while not really losing a major piece
Hillary can't run again after this season but she won't want to do the job, maybe Bernie would?

For the longest time, I didn't understand.

Just now though, reading this, I get it. He's right. MAGats are dumb.

Because now, he's convinced me. I will only vote Democrat from now on.

Okay? Do you have any thoughts on the topic of discussion then?
Biden runs again. If not it's probably Harris vs Buttegeig and a bunch of governors. Klobuchar would run again, Castro too (he'll still get zero support.) The left wing will be Inslee vs Warren and Warren probably gets way more support than Inslee. I think Harris wins the match-up after taking third in Iowa and second in NH. Her base of support is entirely insiders and race/gender hustlers.

On the Republican side Trump either goes to jail or wins the nomination.... well, he could die too. He is getting up there in age (same with Joe, if he dies then Harris gets only token primary opposition.)

Too early to say what the climate is in a race like that but if Biden has declined to continue because of polling trouble then you have to give Trump decent odds of winning.
