Articles & Happenings is the third attempt at a news board on the Kiwi Farms. It is a cursed place. Every moderator who has been assigned here has resigned within a year. During 2016, the political crossfire was so bad it spread to different boards and culminated in me banning American news discussion entirely for several months. It has been deleted in its entirety twice. There is no actual discussion here, it's people posting garbage. It leans much further right than the rest of the site and doesn't particularly conduct discussion because dissenting opinions are dogpiled by a thousand memelords posting shit they read on /pol/ without any critical analysis.

The only rules that can be enforced are empirical ones with boolean violation answers. New threads must cite a real source directly and must use the headline of the article as a thread title without any editorializing. Articles must be archived in some way and must link to the original article. Replies that are one word or a reaction images are automatic one-month bans from the board.

I'm creating this now because it seems like this place is here to stay and is one of the largest areas of the entire site. I might as well throw in bare minimum effort to improve it. I don't even try to find mods for here because they will quit, without exception. I've added new prefixes ("Business" and "Crime") just now.

The conspiracy shit is dumb for sure. The major issue is that this happened with no warning and with the statement that a mega thread was no longer needed. A general Biden/usa analysis thread is pretty useful in general and losing that upset a lot of users. While it worked out in the end, next time the thread gets too big it would be nice to give a heads up and allow migration to a second thread in a more organized matter.

I have spent years trying to make a place where people can safely say what they want and I have tolerated this retarded and useless segment of the userbase only because I've felt bad about just kicking you dumb fucks to the curb where you belong.

However, let me confidently warn you of this: My staff are good people. They are chosen because of their objectivity and care for the community. Ride has been here before you and, if I have my way, he will be here for a long time after you. He's a silent workhorse that does more mundane moderation work than basically everyone else combined. Accusing him of being a subversive political entity for locking a thread at my request because of the technical limitations and problems it was causing as he explained is completely beyond comprehension.

If you are one of these nontent users using the forum like the comment section of Fox News, here's my advice: don't try to fuck with the people keeping the site chugging and the on-topic areas of the site usable, because you'll lose that fight every time.

I think part of the problem, beyond the opportunity for anti-authority general funsies, is that apparently several people had to have it supplementarily explained to them that "slow" meant database loading slow and not posts-per-day slow.

So while it was technically explained, I'd say it was not technically explained adequately for the non-technical.

You seem to hate even running the site? Why do you still do it?

Also your staff has been known to show their political biases even if I agree with them myself that there is a lot of right leaning idiots on the site. So I can kinda understand why people would be concerned about it and sperg out when somebody they think hates them does a thing and explains it poorly.

I think the reason they stay is that they found friends here and actually do like and respect the site for the free speech aspect, and when you find something you like and care about you fight to keep it around if you really care about it. So if anything I'd almost think those spergs are the ones you'd want, not disinterested people that just let whatever happen to it.

I'm not trying to debate you on this matter, but at the same time, I would contend that everything has become tainted by politics, so political debate has kinda spilled over into everywhere and especially everywhere that is a free speech zone. It's an organic result of politics being turned into an autistic entertainment arena that sucks everyone in and dooms their lives forever. And considering how things are progressing with hate crime laws, speech restrictions online etc, it feels like even making fun of lolcows and producing the kind of content that is favored here, has become implicitly political too. Politics sucks but we are at a point in time where it is affecting all of us negatively and sperging out about it like monkeys is the only outlet some of us have that won't result in a 6x6 cell.

I didn't see anywhere in the lock message where Ride explained the technical limitations. In fact, the poor communication from Ride is what led to all the conspiracy theories in the first place. Protecting your worker bees is one thing, but if you're surprised that people freaked out over this then I think you're in the minority. Can you give us a clear number on the new page cap for threads so this doesn't happen again? The only person here that has any control over what happens with the politispergs is you.
