Philosophy Tube / Oliver Lennard / Oliver "Olly" Thorn / Abigail Thorn - Breadtube's Patrick Bateman.

Couldn't resist saying he still has a period casting face. This is Ollie speak for "I was hot but now I'm even hotter, babes".
Has he ever explained what he means by this? (I'm only a few months in to knowing he exists) - because all that comes to mind for me is he is period casting in the same way Dan Stevens was as doughy love interest Mathew Crawley in Downton Abbey. Period drama men don't have to be all that (except for the new crop of not-really-period-dramas like Bridgerton which are basically Tumblr fodder). Olly babes, you've already aged well out of being cast in any 'sexy' shows like that.

Period face basically means a sort of old fashioned face that's, well, the opposite of this tweet:

Ollie thinks he looks like Michelle Docherty in Downton Abbey as Lady Crawley. Probably because of his TV show, Django, that he's been filming and oh my God I've just realised it's based off the spaghetti western Django and he's probably going to be playing a wild west prostitute

Does anyone think he still harbours illusions that he’ll get back Contra’s attention if only he troons out more or is it at this point all about stealing her spot in the yt trans scene to avenge the narcissistic injury Contra’s rejection has caused him? His more aggressive and unhinged tone towards his adoring fans makes me think that it’s the latter now, that he’s purely operating out of spite now and would cut off his literal nose, chin or dick to spite Contra. Not sure though when exactly the shift happened between trying to win Contra back by trooning out and trying to destroy her by skinwalking.

it seems like the second option. now he's trying to be the troon princess of the whole world (or maybe he already believes he is one).

although if he's a narcissist (and there's a very high chance he is one), he might have both goals in mind at the same time.

Just checking in to say I am near-giddy at the cascading resonance of "peak-Olly" that's been going on recently around the internet — and it's just fantastic that it's aligning with his FFS surgery, as FFS surgery is only aesthetically measurable in how limited the failure is.

Contrapoints' only real avoidable mistake through all of his transition (talking solely about the process of transitioning, not the choice itself) was getting FFS instead of saying "fuck all y'all, my face is my face, deal with it" to both trans and anti-trans folks alike. I think he realizes that now, and may say it someday soon?

The best part about Olly is his raging narcissism will have him defending his self-induced deformity for the rest of his life with no self-effacing humor possible...and the fresh impact of it will come as even his own fan club is developing an allergic reaction to his antics.

Online hugboxes are susceptible to what I'll call social media dry rot. They look really sturdy and supportive, because people will be 100% on your side even if in their hearts they're only 50.1% on your side, that's how a hugbox community works and that's the social contract that hugboxxers sign by participating. So the hugbox looks unbreakable...right up until the last rotten fiber snaps and the "star" falls hard to the floor. Olly's hugbox has a LOT of dry rot right now.

what is it with mtf troons and completely stealing other womens identities? contrapoints isnt a woman but in olivers eyes he is so this just adds onto that whole pile. i had to hear so many stories of troons fully turning into their female friends and taking up names, looks, even hobbies that theyve never been interested in so they can feel like a real woman, its so so creepy. one of the most recent cases ive heard of was a troon guilt tripping his sister into changing the name of her newborn because he wanted to use that name (despite the name being decided on ever since she found out she was pregnant while her brother was still "cis")

i dont ever wanna hear any of them claim that buffalo bill was bad transexual rep when this stuff is happening.

Incidentally also an excellent description of his videos.

Place your bets on the very contemporary issue:
  • cisnormative Instagram beauty standards compelled me to change my face
  • universal health coverage is bad actually because it doesn't pay for every embellishment that would save me from suicide
  • anonymity should be banned from the Internet because public discourse is poisoned by pernicious bigots spreading hate with no prospect of real world accountability
  • something something I cannot maintain a social contract with a state that's already broken it by putting me in continual fear and danger of violent death

Watched the "behind the scenes" special/informercial, thanks to whoever put it on YouTube. I didn't mean to watch the whole thing but I found the narcissism and delusions of grandeur on display just hypnotic. A few thoughts:

- About 70% of the hour's footage is hair and makeup people fussing and grooming Olly like a pretty princess. He clearly takes enormous, almost erotic interest in seeing himself being primped and preened and painted and combed and powdered this way, it's constant and never ends. Even when the voiceover is about something else, the visuals are of Olly being fluffed like the glamorous mega-celebrity he imagines himself as. This excites him.

-There's a lot of dreary dull filler. Just endless droning about how he writes the first draft and then how he writes the second draft and then how he edits and it's so boring, but Olly presumes you'll find everything he does as fascinating as he does. Seriously, the 55 minutes could have been shaved down to under 20.

-The "blooper reel" of goofs and mistakes seems about 50 percent fake and contrived. Not really that entertaining. But Olly wants you to watch and see how adorable he is. What a silly girly girl he can be!

-The idea that the crew came up with the idea of this valentine to our Very Special Lady is preposterous.

-"What's your greatest weakness?" Giggles, Olly can't think of a single thing.

-There's more, but I'll wrap this up. Overall, Olly's affect and self image seems to be that of a Nobel prize winning humanitarian and Oscar winner , who's changed the lives of many millions around the globe, and is graciously basking in the admiration of the world. Who started off with just a dream and is now unstoppable.

At least Contra's transition seems "genuine", as far as transitions go - (s)he went from being a crossdressing genderqueer to transwoman, and Natalie is similar to Nicolas.
While Olly, he never seemed trans until Contra dumped him for being a man, and Abigail is even the name of one of Contra's characters...

The idea that the crew came up with the idea of this valentine to our Very Special Lady is preposterous.
Why does he even need a crew? Contra is a one tran band (apart from when Theryn was helping her with scripts and stuff) and her stuff is a million times better than Olly's. What does the crew achieve?

Just finished it now, had to watch on 1.5x speed. It was bad.
-"What's your greatest weakness?" Giggles, Olly can't think of a single thing.
Those segments really irked me, because it's typical of those fluffy YouTube interviews with celebrities from fashion magazines. Like it has this energy:
That doesn't work if it's your own crew who already know you. (Although it's interesting to hear that the Head of Costume on presumably Django took pity on Ollie because he'd been shooting for two weeks but hadn't had any lines).

It was good to gain an insight into Ollie's process with his stylist, Brian Conway, a very talented stylist who's worked with Harper's Bazaar, Tatler, British Vogue, LOVE, The Financial Times.... curiously, Ollie doesn't show up on Brian's talent portfolio page. I can only imagine what it's like draping Tom Daley in Miu Miu for Numéro and suddenly getting a call off Ollie going "oi luv, I sent you a pintrest of sexy steampunk birds, I did, that's what I want to look like". It's no wonder that he rolls his eyes and shoves Ollie into a godawful PrettyLittleThing number. Incredible that there's supposedly "fittings" before the shoot, when so many of his outfits don't fit - Brian presumably knows Ollie won't notice if the clothes don't fit and dresses him like this because he hates him.

The Mann Bros also seem very cool, and also curiously don't feature Ollie in their portfolio. I will say that the videos are very well produced (especially the BTS, which they presumably had more creative control over), so Ollie clearly knows when to splash the cash around in his network. Unfortunately for him, you can't polish a turd.

At least he's giving a salary to some unemployed media people I guess. Clearly not paying them enough though if his makeup and wardrobe are anything to go by.

I watched a few minutes and could not think of who he kept reminding me and then finally it clicked.

Remember when they tried to "cancel" Chris Lilley for transphobia because of playing Ja'mie? Ja'mie's entitlement on the show was sooo accurate in describing that of cross-dressing troons, they legit thought Chris was taking a shot at them or something.

Olly genuinely less likeable and with less vulnerability than Ja'mie.

also more racist- would never invite an Usher to stay in his room.

(i checked the newer tttt link where someone reposted the forbidden stream- and unless they made a mistake when they give the time (said 24.24) that supposedly sinister, ten minutes long laugh he does is just like a normal, short awkward laugh.

the whole thing (and reason i don’t watch streams is they are always) stilted and awkward.
he is just as awkward here as is he is now, just less self satisfied - i had just never previously seen him unscripted.

was sad when he said no one turned up to his 21st birthday.

but then if he’s always been the same, one upping, not genuine, you can’t really blame them.)

this mf seriously needs to work on himself and seriously learn how to make and keep friends - nice, real, friends- and what it takes to do that.

EDIT:
less old news but still kinda old.

SO i just pretty much watched the BTS. First go i fell asleep then woke up for the end.
The music? Terrible, odd, odd infomercial music.

For someone who lists music as one of three things he cant live without? Baffling. Guy seems to have no actual tatste- and I dont mean bad taste by that- i mean *actually* none; a genuine void of it.

Clothes, music, aesthetic?
A vacuum.

The only bit that coudl said to be interesting was where he showed his method of scripting and structuring- yet this was the least well-shined bit of the documentry ,and was done handheld camera, of illegible biro on paper.
That would have actually been useful, and an insight.

So given that P Tube is a romp through philosophy, and not focusing on any one particular thinker or area (CRINGE at "philosophers Of Colour") it wouldnt work to focus a doc on that- so whats left?
Well, instead of all being a constant reiteration of the genius of Olly the Creative Spirit, the actual nuts and bolts of creating the show, and creating the theatrics- but thats not Olly, apparently, thats 'the crew'…whose um, idea this totally is! so this should of course be going to be covered- oh look it’s about to happen, heres..

Bryan Connor, and the Mann bros.

cool, ready to hear from them....oh strange, Bryan is on camera for one second and not by design; he offers no interview or input.
If he's designer as Crew, and a bit part of what makes the channel different , or on any front more edifying than say watching a university lecture upload; the fancy costumes, set, etc.

So why don't we hear from him? Why doesn't he agree to participate?

Well...perhaps he's busy, understandable (over the *entire year* over which this was filmed-yeah, PT is talking , BTS presenter style to the camera, all the way back in that auto-garage place, so this has been ongoing a while)

So nothing from Bryan. Okay.

So who else is a big part? Ahh, the people who film it, the Mann Bris, being as that isnt Chube anymore, and its like..the whole part of YOUtube, surely they are very significant and will have a lot to say.
Lets hear all about how they are changing thier operations since the start of working with Chube, how it is working together, what they make of the ideas presented, etc etc.

Oh, excellent, here's a shot of them sitting on a sofa togetehr, presumably opposite Chube...here's a close up shot mixed in that...is maybe from this stack of film?

Whatever, I guess they are here to talk about how they all work together, after an intro from Tube...that explains how they met...okay guys, jump in here...oh no, bit more explanation...bit more...this has gone on for minutes....are they goig to reply?

Tubes voice sounds like it's echoing in an empty room...is anyone else even there?

Who is interviewing him? who is he talking to ? ...No reply to any of what tubes saying,
Tube building himself up into an uproarious laugh at his own joke- finally, from far behind camera, at the end of an agonising monologue, we hear a quiet laugh eventually be offered up.

And thats it- thats it from the Mann bros, who were set up as if they were going to do an interview. The Mann Bros,
who insisted and secretly plotted to make this happen in the first place!

Maybe they aint 'friends' so much now that Tube is raking it in and they are being paid less than £700 to do all the work on actual set that isnt done by the stylist.

I do find it bizarre how- even if this WASNT framed as being done by the crew, oh shucks you guys!- other parts of this operation either werent wanted, or werent willing to contribute and stick thier necks out for Tube.

He also repeatedly references and mentions and describes his past content but very noticeably doesn't show a single bit of pre-troon footage, despite it making up the vast majority of his youtube content, because that's a Dead Man(tm) now.

I wonder if it's gonna be a copy of Contra's post-FFS "Beauty" video, except somehow with even less substance than the original.

A great deal of the humor of the character comes from everyone in the fictional universe flawlessly treating the grotesque man dressed as a woman like a beautiful feminine girl. Even though Ja‘mie is female in a diagetic sense, unlike troons, I can see how that would sting lol. Troons hate anything that reminds them of reality.

Olly genuinely less likeable and with less vulnerability than Ja'mie.

Definitely. I should clarify, it is not so much the character traits that reminded me of Ja’mie, it’s more the meta angle of “why is this weird hulking man being presented to me, the viewer, as a beautiful stylish goddess?” Except with Ja’mie, the mismatch is deliberate for the sake of humor; with Olly it is unintentional.

Given the amount of money he’s wasting on all kinds of shit, wouldn’t it have been more believable for him to hire an outside director, and then present it as “this person just wanted to do a documentary on a trans YouTuber”? I suppose he was scared of not having 100% creative control?

Is there anything more creepily AGP than swanning on about "Period Face"?

It means "time period face." As in a face that is good for period dramas.

So, wait. Does Olly The British Actress actually believe that he is going to get roles in period dramas? How would his appearances not pull audiences out of the illusion? Like we are expected to believe that someone trooned out in the Tudor era, by sneaking into the stables every night and stealing horse piss?

LOL, I did know that, but I think the double entendre isn't exactly lost on people like Olly and he relishes in it.

I also don't entirely get what it means, I guess Olly is fairly Hapsburgian in some respects. It seems to me that theatre costuming and makeup have a lot of ways to make any human face look like its from "a time period."
