I will have to disagree with you on some of that. Occupy wall street was initially a far left movement that was bought out by the DNC establishment and went from anti capitalist and Marxist and got replaced with the now famously mocked interview about intersectionality.
There are cultural movements from right brained and left brained people. One tends to be more traditional and the other more open.
Out of the public sentiments there are well right and left wing worldviews to break it down basic level. Occupy attracted all the fringes until the DNC co-opeted an "independent" leftist movement for the DNC.
I'm telling you this as someone who had an ear out in the circles around.
But it won them in 2012 but gun control dies after sandy hook and 3d printing.

That they get co-opted it the entire point. It's a startup IPO scheme. Sell a movement and get it off the ground buy building a core consumer base then auction it off to an established competitor who can take it next level with venture capital.
