I think Gehenna discounts the peaceful divorce option . ISIS leaders so far have a prolific history of killing themselves and their families, and those women and children were definitely willing to shoot at/blow up the evil Crusaders. You make some good points. The one thing that I disagree on is that most people aren't liberal or conservative. There are about 25% liberals, 25% conservatives, and 50% independents who don't give a shit and vote for the least crazy option.

Maybe my percentages are off, but I contend a very large percentage of people simply don't care, and will vote for whatever makes their lives easiest.

Its hard to imagine a scenario where either side would be satisfied with a "peaceful divorce". As you said you can't really divide Republican and Democrat supporters on state lines unless a great deal of forced migration takes place and I am sure no group would willingly go along with that. A patchwork of exclaves would be very vulnerable not to just foreign powers but also to organized crime and gangs. Some kind of power struggle would most likely take place that would see both sides try to unite the broken country. An American historian said during the American Revolution 40 to 45 percent of the white population supported the Patriots, 15 to 20 percent supported the Loyalists and the remainder laid low and just tried to live their lives. In the event the USA is shattered due to internal issues, I would not be surprised if there are similar statistics in the event of something resembling a 2nd American Civil War.

Largely it's self reliant with donations going towards candidates. If Democrats used to have the best ground game in town, the Republicans have the best and most efficient funding game. Several wealthy donors, a much better pulse on how to get small donors, and most of their functions work autonomously to maintain their own personal operations so that all donations can go to political ends rather than overhead.

Lots of race strife; was in Detroit for the 1967 riots. The 1968 Democratic National Convention was wracked by major violence. Shit was bad, and we saw it on the news every evening.

One of the strengths of America, even today's America, is the American people. Sure as hell isn't any "congress" or any "administration/regime". Day-to-day, Americans of all types work, do business, and live together. America works because the people who really count work together.

Have never seen a full-blown civil war coming. Wouldn't be a linear conflict, as was the first Civil War. Would look for cyber-warfare and Irish-type "troubles".

Where else in the world has the kind of freedoms that the United States provides? Even while the First Amendment is being destroyed before our very eyes with the Biden administration ordering companies to crack the censorship whip, you'll find no replacement anywhere else. In every other country, the government treats you as a subject and not a citizen. So what exactly does running off to Eastern Europe or Oceania do for you? Buy you time for what exactly? You'll be keeping your head down and be forced to comply with increasingly arbitrary dictates anyway.

That's the secret of globalization. There is no refuge from it. You either submit or you're inevitably jailed or left penniless for wrongthink. There will be no occupation of the United States or Europe by "the UN" or by China, just the slow transformation of the country into a slum.
