That doesn't hurt, but to find the real reason you have to look at the push towards using "ESG scores" as a measure for investment. Having all companies forced, at penalty of losing access to investment, to measure against an "environmental, social and governance" score is the final stage of regulatory capture. These criteria are often totally arbitrary and impossible for all but the most well-capitalized multinational mega-corps to hit. The end goal is the total disappearance of individual free enterprise and small business and the synthesis of the globalist technocrat world order with mega-corporate power.
Here's a fun thing to consider: The CCP is essentially a corporation that owns a country, complete with army and police, at least 20% of every major business, and a captive population of workers who have no choice but to rent and buy from them. It's pretty easy to imagine why corporatists would be absolutely tumescent over the idea of replicating that model.

Political elites in both parties are fairly enamored with the idea of a social credit system and wish to replicate it in the U.S.

Just because something in an industry is going down the toilet and losing customers like CNN doesn't mean the other people magically gain those customers. A lot of them are just never going to watch cable news again. CNN at its heights of the last 6 years of ratings bonanzas (Trump campaign, 2016 elections, Russiagate, the impeachments, Supreme Court picks, COVID, Midterms, show trials like Chauvin and Rittenhouse and the 2020 Elections and Insurrection-Fest had 4+ million people watching. Now they don't even get 1 million.

But look at the 3 major cable news networks. Its not like those 2 or 3 million or close to 4 million people broke 2 former CNN viewers for MSNBC and 1 former CNN viewer for FOX. FOX is down and going back to the pre-Trump storyline base numbers and MSNBC and CNN are going backwards to their pre-hysteria base numbers or below as well.

Look at ratings charts the past few months for cable. Its FOX News shows doing historical FOX News numbers and no CNN and no MSNBC in the top 50 in demo with really weak total viewership numbers. MSNBC viewership peaks at about 2 million and change for Rachel Maddow and 1.3 million people for a non-Maddow show and that's all below 2021 and 2020 numbers. Its not like 4, 5, 6 million people are watching Tucker Carlson and Rachel Maddow and Hannity and The Five and Reidout now. Those people are just gone from watching cable news.

the biggest, most lawyered-up entities
Mentioning those and the whole ESG thing, I'll share something that I ran across last night in my surfing, bolding theirs:
ISO 26000:2010 provides guidance rather than requirements, so it cannot be certified to unlike some other well-known ISO standards. Instead, it helps clarify what social responsibility is, helps businesses and organizations translate principles into effective actions and shares best practices relating to social responsibility, globally. It is aimed at all types of organizations regardless of their activity, size or location.

The standard was launched in 2010 following five years of negotiations between many different stakeholders across the world. Representatives from government, NGOs, industry, consumer groups and labour organizations around the world were involved in its development, which means it represents an international consensus.

Just something else to file away or dig further into.

Audience, no really, that is probably the best answer. The non-progressive Dems were raised during the end of the Cold War, back when Reagan really peddled it. It is easy to push Russia bad on a generation being raised up on the idea that a nuke will be shot at them from Russia at any time. In a way, they Cold War has likely solidified Russia being a threat for years to come, even if those raised in this era think the Republicans they built their ideas off of are tards.

Also, as said by @NeoGAF Lurker, much of it is easy to sell thanks to Putin being right-wing and hating certain groups. Many of these Libs were raised on the idea of stopping the Nazis, likely from grandparents that suffered during WWII, so anything right can also be sold on that.
Putin hates guns and supports Isreal to a greater extent than those crop of Democrats, who lean more to the Palestinians side.

Though I noticed more Russian hate from liberals when Putin intervened in Syria.

In the 2012 presidential election, it was the GOP fear mongering over Russia with Obama delivering that famous line to Romney that its no longer the cold war. 2 years later, Obama does an about face.

So apparently Virginia democrats blocked Youngkin's voter ID bill.

Any more word on that?
They've blocked a lot of stuff so far. The only thing that seems to be on the table is lifting the mask mandates from schools, as one moderate Dem has said he will do it. But they have also, for instance, blocked a bill that would reverse a Democrat policy that schools don't have to report school assaults to police. Oh well. They had their chance to turn back. Now they own it.

That's ok. Let them block it.

MAKE THEM block it.

Every block is a campaign ad.

Good lord do the dems there not understand that can be used against them?

Free Community College Is Off the Table, Jill Biden Is to Confirm

https://www.nytimes.com/2022/02/07/us/politics/jill-biden-free-community-college.html (https://archive.ph/DW7Qu)

In a speech on Monday, the first lady will acknowledge that her signature legislative initiative is “no longer” in the Democrats’ spending bill.

Feb. 7, 2022, 5:00 a.m. ET
WASHINGTON — During his first address to Congress last spring, President Biden said that Jill Biden, the first lady, would lead an effort to fulfill his administration’s promise to provide two years of free community college to all eligible students.

That provision, tucked inside a massive social spending package that has struggled to win the support of all the senators who caucus with the Democrats, was the first lady’s signature legislative initiative. But on Monday, Dr. Biden will address a summit of community college leaders and confirm what her husband has recently suggested: The plan has no future in a bill that Democrats are trying to whittle down in order to salvage.

“One year ago, I told this group that Joe was going to fight for community colleges,” she will say on Monday at the Community College National Legislative Summit in Washington, according to excerpts from her speech shared by her office. “But Joe has also had to make compromises. Congress hasn’t passed the Build Back Better agenda — yet. And free community college is no longer a part of that package.”

The writing had been on the wall. Democrats had moved away from the provision, and Dr. Biden has previously said that the current political climate meant that it might not be the “right time” for free community college to pass as part of a social spending bill. But her remarks on Monday, which aides say will highlight her disappointment, will be her starkest acknowledgment yet that a measure she had championed is dead.

It is unusual for first ladies to weigh in on the defeat of a West Wing policy issue, but Dr. Biden, a community college English professor, was personally invested in the issue.

She spent her first year visiting community colleges, but did not campaign for the support of Democratic senators and House members who wanted to pare back or eliminate the provision outright. Privately, advisers to both the president and the first lady say that was because the East Wing was never given a signal that the measure would stay in the bill’s final version, despite Dr. Biden’s focus on the provision.

For months, Mr. Biden has told Democrats that free community college would most likely have to be cut, including in one private meeting with progressive lawmakers last October. The bill would have originally committed $45.5 billion to waive two years of tuition at community colleges for five years. States would have to opt in, and the federal government would cover the cost of the program for the first year. The federal contribution would decrease by 5 percent each year after that, with states covering the rest.

But a White House framework for an intended compromise, unveiled in October, did not include the promised two years of free community college. And the House-passed $2.2 trillion version of the plan contains additional aid for community colleges and grant programs, but not the tuition-free provision.

Mr. Biden has all but publicly abandoned the measure, telling reporters in January that he doubted free community college could be included in a renewed version of the spending bill.

“There’s two really big components that I feel strongly about that I’m not sure I can get in the package,” Mr. Biden said. “One is the child care tax credit, and the other is help for cost of community colleges.”

Democrats are still exploring expanding tuition assistance for low- and middle-income students. But how big a program they will support, and how far that approach will go toward increasing access to higher-paying jobs — and economic competitiveness overall — remains to be seen.

Research has shown that waiving tuition at community colleges could lift not just enrollment among students who might not otherwise have attended college, but also their wages for years to come. Eliminating tuition makes the decision to enroll much easier, economists and researchers said. The plan was also supposed to financially shore up the colleges themselves, which have suffered disproportionately during the pandemic.

Critics of the community college plan had pointed to high dropout rates and poor outcomes at some of the schools; fewer than 40 percent of community college students earn a degree within six years. Dr. Biden, for her part, has often publicly praised her students as resilient and hardworking.

“My students work incredibly hard to make it to class, often between work and raising families,” she told Good Housekeeping last August. “They want to learn.”

Like her husband, advisers say, Dr. Biden will pivot toward highlighting legislative wins, including the bipartisan infrastructure bill and the coronavirus relief package. On Wednesday, she will travel to the University of Minnesota with Xavier Becerra, the secretary of Health and Human Services, to highlight the American Rescue Plan’s investments in child care.

“We take the hard-won victories and we keep pushing for the change we need,” Dr. Biden will say on Monday. “It’s not flashy — but with work and persistence, with each person telling their own story and speaking their own truth — we will win the progress our students deserve.”

That's assuming they'll be the ones in charge though.

Well, there goes the young leftist demographic as well as the starbucks "gimmie free shit" socialsts.

Does Biden have a base left?
Come on now. These are the same people who willingly covered up two actual bona-fide rapes by our Commander-in-Chief (Reade, and his own daughter, if the FBI-confiscated diary is anything to go by). I'm pretty sure they can ignore yet another of his broken promises. They're too far gone at this point.

I think the only way it makes sense for them to vote Dem anymore is:

Joe's at least as old as they are, if not older
He was veep for the Cool Black Guy who they totally didn't vote for just to prove they're not racist
Therefore, he's a good president.

Absolutely. Have you glimpsed at the Twitter/Tumblr liberal base?

They absolutely cannot fathom a Rethuglikkkan doing anything good at all. They'll vote blue until the day they get put into a nursing home being abused by their "enriched" nurses, and swear that it was "them dirty repukelikkkans who prevented the socialist utopia from manifesting" without a shred of irony. It's why I believe in Gehenna's statement that he has a floor of hardcore 30% support, no matter how much Biden shits in their mouth. These people live in a different reality from you and I, and unironically parrot the mainstream media because "funny comedian says they're the #resistance, and ackshually America is already far-right."

"D-D-DRUMPF IS SURELY FINISHED THIS TIME GOYS, WE SWEAR!" they nervously said for the 1,046,853rd time.

Oh, fuck off, you pedophilic neo-con cocksuckers. You're just salty that Drumpf is a better Republican converter than you'll ever be. Why, it's almost like Brandon is doing such a poor job that they have to keep focusing on Orange Man's "failings" in order to make it seem like Joe's not so bad after all.....
