Says who and how much of the total is that current contribution? What I mean is that theres people collecting fuel for truckers, there's lawyers offering pro bono help, who exactly is doing this and where is it listed black and white how the money is being spent? Its up in millions now. A professional website costs 5000 dollars (+) , I'd make them one for half price cause I like em, I'm sure somebody could even do it for free. If no website they could at least have a phone number and some volunteers manning it using a digital switchbox. They are cheap as fuck, heck they could be paying these people a bit even.

This is the trucker's battle to lose at this point - the city does not have the resources to deal with any solution other than the truckers voluntarily driving their trucks away, and have already made it clear that they have zero interest in discussion or compromise. The truckers have nothing left to do but just keep sitting there in their giant hunks of metal that will stay there in the streets even if they get dragged to prison.

Don't forget, they already burned away any avenue of retreat for those truckers so driving away would ruin them. Ottawa's city council should be thankful that truckers aren't following them back home to invite them to their private Minecraft servers.

Not to sound like I'm doomposting, but I do think the cops' animosity toward the Ottowa truckers has been rising since this whole protest began, and they're probably nowhere near as friendly/willing to look the other way as this thread wants to think they are. Working nonstop for up to 12 hours at a time in the dead of winter is gonna take you to some dark places. It doesn't matter who you are. When you can point to a person or entity and use them as a scapegoat for your suffering, it's really, really easy to dehumanize them.

The first big job I had in my field consisted of 15-hour worknights in a tiny-ass town an hour away from the Canadian border, and a lot of it involved working outside in mid-January. A lot of my coworkers resented the project lead by the end of it, possibly more than he really deserved (honestly, the worst I have to say about him was that he was sometimes unprofessional and played favorites). My point being is that in circumstances like these, people with lesser constitutions are less inclined to be polite.

I'm sure there are a lot of police that are sympathetic to the cause, but for all intents and purposes, it should be safe to assume that the cops are going to continue to do their job with varying degrees of emotional investment in breaking up the protest. Some might be doing it to just keep their jobs, but there's no doubt enough of them who truly believe that the state has their best interests at heart.

Most cops in Canada work 12 hour shifts regularly with a four on, four off rotation. Two days, two nights, off for four. Placing someone in hospital, major investigations, and court all extend the shift. Locals, Provincials, Feds all use this schedule for the most part.
