And when they speak that openly from a position to believe them, I think it's a logical move to believe them. As others have said, trying to escalate force comes with the very real possibility that they simply will not comply. You don’t wanna do it unless you’re absolutely sure they will do what you say.

And, again, what the fuck is the military going to do? Even if they drag all the truckers to prison, the trucks are staying in the streets. They cannot compel the truckers to drive away - the only way those trucks are getting off the streets in a timely manner is if the truckers leave voluntarily.

Not to sound like I'm doomposting, but I do think the cops' animosity toward the Ottowa truckers has been rising since this whole protest began, and they're probably nowhere near as friendly/willing to look the other way as this thread wants to think they are. Working nonstop for up to 12 hours at a time in the dead of winter is gonna take you to some dark places. It doesn't matter who you are. When you can point to a person or entity and use them as a scapegoat for your suffering, it's really, really easy to dehumanize them.

The first big job I had in my field consisted of 15-hour worknights in a tiny-ass town an hour away from the Canadian border, and a lot of it involved working outside in mid-January. A lot of my coworkers resented the project lead by the end of it, possibly more than he really deserved (honestly, the worst I have to say about him was that he was sometimes unprofessional and played favorites). My point being is that in circumstances like these, people with lesser constitutions are less inclined to be polite.

I'm sure there are a lot of police that are sympathetic to the cause, but for all intents and purposes, it should be safe to assume that the cops are going to continue to do their job with varying degrees of emotional investment in breaking up the protest. Some might be doing it to just keep their jobs, but there's no doubt enough of them who truly believe that the state has their best interests at heart.

Most cops in Canada work 12 hour shifts regularly with a four on, four off rotation. Two days, two nights, off for four. Placing someone in hospital, major investigations, and court all extend the shift. Locals, Provincials, Feds all use this schedule for the most part.

Also notable that cops tend to get really sweet overtime pay. They're not necessarily going to resent people who get them stuck earning a bunch of extra cash. The system wants this. For example, they want a cop to desire to stay in the interrogation room for as long as necessary to extract a confession, instead of being anxious to clock out with nothing.

Amazing if true, but the Ambassador Bridge is a slow shitshow on the Canadian side almost always, because instead of extending the highway to the bridge, they have a regular 6 lane avenue from the highway (The 401 and the local EC Row Expressway) to the bridge.

That being said, four trucks that become 'disabled' can basically choke the Ambassador Bridge.

People are organizing in the streets, forming various small hubs, there are support networks forming, people are getting to know each other. There are spokespeople. Folks are bringing on jerry cans and small hand-held carts of fuel to the truckers, etc.

All you fucking do is step down from the dopamine-rush for one bloody moment, get some people organized and ask some tough questions of this group. If all checks out you help them out with what needs helping out, like again getting a phone-service working, a basic website or at least a social media profile, etc.

If it doesn't you publicly tell them to go fuck themselves, and you start a legitimate one.
