Right we kinda drifted off topic. Someone said that the US military fights for freedom. I was explaining nothing in the oath ever mentions that. It's loyalty to the president and constitution. And if the arbiters of what is "Constitutional" are the same ones telling you to do unethical shit, it's not much of a defense against tyranny. I would personally hope and believe theres a lot of good people enlisted who'd refuse. But if the individual soldier is anything below 100% freedom loving, you can't expect them to do shit in the name of freedom.

We aren't part of the Commonwealth and while very similar, we are different when it comes to the US Constitution and Bill of Rights. Also, the vax has been challenged in US federal court and the appellants won a stay. It's an experimental vax and many are opposed on religious grounds. Joining the military is not consent to be experimented upon or be compelled to go against your religion.

The person who issued the paper on stream was a big black lady in a black windbreaker. She wasn't wearing a mask, but I kinda just assumed she was a cop because of the black jacket. I could be dead wrong.

Most of this is also, theoretically, true here. Though "theoretically" is the key word: having the Army bend over backwards for your religion only works if you're a Sikh (beard, turban, etc) in practice. A while ago (a decade plus) a soldier did succeed in challenging a vaccine mandate, though good luck with that now.

To say that the US military fights for freedom is probably a jingoistic lie. The grunts on the ground fight for what they are told is freedom, but it's usually just interference for big money these days.

Specific to the US system though, the president tells the military to kill shitskins. The president doesn't get to decide the legality of his orders, though. The Supreme Court has no power to order troops to do anything, but they do decide whether or not the president's orders were legal or treason. That also depends on how much murder Congress authorized and whether or not that authorization lines up with the constitution.

More and more i appreciate the American system of government. It is very adversarial but there isn't a single country on Earth I'd rather live in when shit hits the fan.
