Postal Service Fuckups

I'm always getting other people's mail at my business mailing address.

Some of it is understandable; an address from a block away, or just down the street, etc. But quite often it's mail from the other side of town that has no business being in my area. It's like the post office is not even trying sometimes. I always give the mistakenly delivered mail back to the carrier to mark it return to sender, or if I know the people whose mail is mistakenly delivered to me, I'll call them and tell them to stop by to get their mail.

Here in Bongland Royal Mail isn't actually too bad. Private couriers like Hermes, Yodel, DX, etc, can be absolutely dogshit for the most part.

Best courier I've ever used was DHL. I was also formerly employed by them, and you got hefty discounts on international mail.

I've heard FedEx is good stateside, but pretty shit in Europe and Asia.

I'll spare you my bitching about the USPS because it is all related to GD tape/cd trading decades ago and I've lost the memory of much of it. I do have some useful info to share though.

It's hard to believe, but they actually do one thing right these days with their Informed Delivery service. Every piece of mail (afaik) is digitally photographed when being processed. The USPS sends customers a daily email of most mail pieces arriving that day:

You can also digitally sign for packages and choose the delivery location of your package (front door, back door, etc). Knowing what is arriving at my PO Box daily without having to make a trip and check it is great. You do have to sign up for separate accounts for separate mailing addresses (home and POB for example), but that's the only downside I've run across in years of using it.

@JosephStalin I've had to wait five weeks on media mail packages before and that was from one state over. Hopefully yours makes it in a shorter timespan.

USPS pisses me off to no end.

I have a PO box for my LLC, and often I use it to get things sent there. Now they tell you oh we have a pre sign for things needing signatures etc.

Since it's for my LLCs, I often want to sign to prove I got a paper that has some value for my job etc, now if some employee sees the mail in shape and puts in my box great let them sign.

I can't tell you how many times I get "oh it was returned you didn't come sign" even though I gave pre signing. Oh and with out saying, they don't tell me to come sign ffs.

Now for a story that is adorable true and abusive to well... not the PO but over all. So I knew I was going to be away and there was a killer deal on a big ass box of russian ammo as a long time shooter I needed this. Ammo is marked ORD-D to post office and they ship it and all but need to sign. I was not going to be home couldn't swing missing the deal so...

I asked my sis, she said sure I'll sign. I didn't tell her, I sent to her office. One day this big ass metal box of bullets covered in russian letters shows up and "can you sign for this" her co workers probably called her the commie school shooter for months LOL.

What did they mean by this?

USPS isn't that bad. It's way more cheaper to ship stuff overseas with them than UPS or FedEx

I've now had the Post Office lose two Amazon packages in the last week. Nothing life-threatening or anything, but still annoying.

Yesterday, the FedEx guy just leaves my package near the front door of my apartment building instead of delivering it to my apartment door.

Granted it was underwear and not a $600 BCD. If it was a $600 BCD or dive computer, I would be royally pissed off.

I've had underwear stolen from my mailbox. Klepto junkies do not give a fuck.

tbh I've never had any big issue with the post office, sometimes the line can be a bit much, sometimes the Priority Mail free-ish packaging shit is out of stock, but mostly they've been good eggs for my interactions
once a thousand years ago I scored a cheap deal on ebay for Famicom Contra and then it turned out it was from some extra Third World SEA country where you couldn't just get an international money order, you had to fill out the form to put out a request to The US Department Of Shithole Money Orders and then if they decided you weren't buying children or drugs they'd send it out, which was challenging for "FC Contra loose cart" to sound non-sus
but sure enough six months later I got my shit

USPS has at times routed my package to the other side of the country for some reason. There's nothing I can really do about it but laugh. FedEx on the other hand has fucked up just about every delivery they were scheduled to make over the past 18 months.

Canada Post lost my shrooms and sent my dildo to my elderly next-door neighbor.

Every box I've received from USPS for the past several months has been torn apart, taped back half shut, and stamped all over with "damaged or missing" (despite making it to my door anyway). The contents of the package are always fine, so I haven't complained. But I just have to wonder what the hell is going down at the post office.
